Before exploring neuroanatomy, it is important to understand the basic anatomical terminology and concepts used throughout the course. Lesson 0 provides this foundational material and may be skipped by learners who are already familiar with these concepts. This module introduces the gross anatomy of the nervous system, including the brain's major surface features, protective coverings, and blood supply. You will learn to identify the anatomical and functional lobes of the brain and describe their primary functions. The module also introduces the major cell types of the central and peripheral nervous systems and provides an overview of the embryonic development of the nervous system.

This module covers the anatomy of the spinal cord and spinal nerves. The gray matter nuclei and white matter tracts of the spinal cord and their functions/connections are described. It is also involved in motivation and avoidance of danger.
