Shopify and Etsy e-commerce platforms are often integrated to make it easy for buyers and sellers to streamline their operations. If you have access to both platforms, you may be able to reach a wider audience by adopting your product listings to both Etsy and Shopify. They possess different capabilities, as Shopify is a customizable platform that allows for the manufacturing and maintaining online stores, and Etsy is primarily a marketplace that attracts many buyers. Using the two platforms hand in hand can cover a wider audience and account for more variables within the e-commerce world.

How to set up a Shopify Etsy integration

Here is a quick step-by-step guide to integrating your Shopify and Etsy platforms:

  1. Access your Shopify store and Etsy account.

  2. Download the Etsy integration app.

  3. List products on Etsy.

  4. Manage Etsy orders.

  5. Migrate between both platforms.

Let's break down each step to integrate your stores.

1. Access your Shopify store and Etsy account.

Before integrating your Shopify and Etsy platforms, you’ll need to access your Shopify and Etsy accounts. If you don’t have accounts on either platform, proceed to create them. Many sellers start their online businesses by using Etsy as it’s a popular e-commerce site that only takes five steps to sign up. It doesn’t require technical skills, but due to its massive active seller count—nine million and counting—it may be difficult for a business owner to make their products or services stand out to their target audiences. Shopify is a more advanced e-commerce tool, as it has customizable features and allows for the developing of a unique brand image.

2. Download the Etsy integration app.

Once you have created a Shopify and Etsy account, you can navigate to the Shopify App Store, where you’ll find several third-party applications to integrate your platforms. Many of these apps can facilitate inventory, order, and listing management on Etsy through Shopify. Other useful Etsy integration apps will help sync your products, manage your storefront, and handle customer transactions across both platforms.

3. List products on Etsy.

Now that you've downloaded your preferred Etsy integration app and synced your accounts, you’ll need to list your products on Etsy and integrate them with Shopify. The applications should sync your listings between platforms, but if you choose not to use an integration app, you can list your products manually. After you have listed your products, you’ll use your Etsy site to keep track of your inventory and your Shopify store to promote your content and brand.

4. Manage Etsy orders.

Shopify is a helpful tool for expanding businesses, especially if you have multiple Etsy stores and are finding it difficult to handle increased customer traffic. Depending on your integration app, your Shopify dashboard could display orders placed on your Etsy site, allowing for an organized method of reviewing and shipping orders. A dashboard can also allow you to navigate between unfulfilled, unpaid, and open orders to optimize customer satisfaction and assess your business’ performance.

5. Migrate between both platforms.

Now that you have successfully synchronized your Shopify and Etsy platforms, continue updating your branded content and product listings by migrating between the two storefronts. This will ensure both platforms remain relevant and beneficial for your business. By keeping up to date with importing data and syncing products, you can make it easier to simultaneously manage both e-commerce sites and promote your business to a wider audience.
