MHT CET Exam 2025: Application, Exam Pattern, Eligibility

MHT CET stands for the Maharashtra Common Entrance Test. This exam helps shortlist students for enrollment in the engineering, pharmaceutical, and other technical course programmes available in public and private Maharashtra universities. The exam is conducted by the Maharashtra State Common Entrance Test Cell, and MHT CET 2025 registration began at the end of December 2024 and ends midway through February 2025, subject to extensions.

About the MHT CET exam

Every year, the state-level agency administers the Maharashtra Common Entrance examination to determine admission into undergraduate programmes in engineering and technology, pharmacy, PharmD, architecture, and hotel management and catering technology courses offered by government and government-aided professional institutions as well as un-aided private, professional institutions throughout the state of Maharashtra. 

The placement exam is also mandatory for students pursuing their first year of full-time undergraduate agriculture programmes offered by government and government-aided and private professional institutions in Maharashtra.  

Each year, thousands of students apply for the exam [1]. 

The exam is administered in two groups: 

  • PCM (physics, chemistry, mathematics) for engineering and agriculture candidates 

  • PCB (physics, chemistry, biology) for pharmacy and agriculture candidates

For agriculture students, you can choose between appearing in the PCM group or the PCB group if you are pursuing one of the following courses:

  • BSc (Hon) Agriculture

  • BSc (Hon) Horticulture

  • BSc (Hon) Community Science

  • BSc (Hon) Agribusiness management

  • BTech Biotechnology

You must appear in the PCM group if you are pursuing:

  • BTech Agriculture Engineering

  • BTech Food Technology

You must appear in the PCB group if you are pursuing:

  • BSc (Hon) Forestry

  • BFSc Fisheries Science

MHT CET 2025 application form

You need to complete the MHT CET 2025 application online. The MHT CET 2025 application process includes registration, filling in mandatory details in the application form, uploading the necessary files, and finally, payment of the application fee. 

Step 1: Registration

Visit the official MHT CET website for registration and application submission. While registering, fill in all personal information fields and provide a working email address and a valid mobile number. After registration, you may receive an email to your registered email with new application form login details.

Step 2: Complete the application form.

  • Provide your name, exactly as it appears on your identity verification documents..

  • Complete the form by filling out all mandatory fields.

  • Complete the application process online, including PCB, PCM, or both.

  • The exam is available in English, Marathi, and Urdu. So, you must specify your preferred language for the examination. For PCM, the mathematics section is offered in English only.

Step 3: Uploading files/documents

  • Provide your photograph and signature in the given format.

  • Attach your caste certificate if applying for a reserved seat category.

  • Uploaded documents should be in the proper size and format—for instance, identification proof, or class mark sheets for eligibility.

Step 4: Application fee payment

Upon completing your application, you will pay the processing fees online before the deadline. For example, registration for the MHT CET 2025 began on 30 December 2024, and applicants had until 23 February 2025 to remit payment [2]. After successfully paying the application fees, the site will display confirmation. After downloading, save the filled-out application form in pdf format and print it out so you can use it for further application if needed.

The 2026 fee schedule is yet to be published, but the 2025 fees for PCM and PCB candidates were as follows:

  • ₹1,000: For general/unreserved category applicants, those from outside Maharashtra, and J&K migrant candidates

  • ₹800: For Orphan; Transgender; SC, ST, DT-VJ, NT1, NT-2, NT-3, OBC, SBC, SEBC, EWS candidates; and PWD candidates within Maharashtra state

  • ₹500: Late fee for all applicants

MHT CET 2025: Exam pattern and marking scheme

To improve your ability to score well on the MHT CET, study and review the topics outlined in the official syllabus, which is available on the exam's official website. The exam consists of three papers, each worth 100 marks, from which 20 percent of the weightage is from the class 11 curriculum and the remaining 80 percent is from class 12.

The exam carries no negative marking, so it is advantageous to attempt every question, even if you are unsure of the answer. Details of how questions are distributed and time allotted are as follows:

MET CET syllabus

The MHT CET 2025 questions shall cover the entire class 12 curriculum of biology, chemistry, mathematics, and physics and some of the class 11 curriculum:

MET CET eligibility criteria (Maharashtra State Candidature Candidates)

You can be of any age to take the MHT CET, as there is no minimum or upper age requirement. As of MHT CET 2025, you must meet the following criteria to take the exam:

  • Indian citizenship

  • Must have passed the 12th grade (or equivalent) exams with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics from a recognized body (board or university). Students planning to take their 12th grade exams are also eligible. 

  • For those who have taken 12th grade exams, minimum marks of 45% are required (40% for reserved category candidates)

In addition, you must meet the following course-specific prerequisites based on the course you are pursuing if you are a resident of the state of Maharashtra: 

Note: Non-Maharashtra Indian citizens are not required to take the MET CET for entrance to Maharashtra institutions, but they must meet other admission criteria, such as a non-zero score on the JEE (Main) BE/BTech or NEET, for example.

Engineering and technology

Course: First year - Engineering and Technology (Four-year duration) or Master of Engineering and Technology (Integrated) (Five years duration)

Eligibility criteria:

  • Passed class 10+2 or equivalent exam with physics and mathematics as core subjects, along with biology, chemistry, biotechnology, technical vocational, computer science, information technology, informatics practices, agriculture, engineering graphics, electronics or entrepreneurship, or business studies

  • Received minimum 45% marks combined on the above three subjects (40% minimum for Backward Class categories, EWS, and PwD applicants belonging to Maharashtra State)

Alternatively, you can:

  • Pass a minimum three-year Diploma in Engineering and Technology course with at least 45% marks (40% minimum for Backward Class categories, EWS, and PwD applicants belonging to Maharashtra State)

  • Passed a three-year Diploma of Vocation (D. Voc.) stream in the same or similar sector (four-year track only)

Pharmacy

Course: First year - Pharmacy (Four year duration)

Eligibility criteria:

  • Passed 10+2 or equivalent exam with English as one of the core subjects and physics, chemistry, mathematics, or biology as optional subjects

Alternatively, you can:

  • Complete any other Pharmacy Council of India-approved equivalent

PharmD

Course: First year - PharmD (Six years duration)

Eligibility criteria:

  • Passed 10+2 or equivalent exam with physics and chemistry as core subjects, along with mathematics or biology

Alternatively, you can:

  • Pass a diploma course in pharmacy from a state board-affiliated institutions

  • Complete any other Pharmacy Council of India-approved equivalent

Agriculture

Course: First year - Agriculture programmes

Eligibility criteria:

BSc(Hon) Agriculture, BSc (Hon) Horticulture:

  • Passed 10+2 or equivalent exam with English and one of the following groups of compulsory subjects:

    • Physics, chemistry, biology

    • Physics, chemistry, mathematics, biology

    • Physics, chemistry, mathematics

    • Inter agriculture (with physics, chemistry)

  • Obtained score in Common Entrance Test conducted by the Competent Authority

BSc(Hon) Forestry, BFSc Fisheries Science:

  • Passed 10+2 or equivalent exam with English and one of the following groups of compulsory subjects:

    • Physics, chemistry, biology

    • Physics, chemistry, mathematics, biology

    • Inter agriculture (with physics, chemistry)

  • Obtained score in Common Entrance Test (For BFSc students: Physics, Chemistry, Biology) conducted by the Competent Authority

BTech(Hon) Agriculture, BTech(Hon) Food Technology, BTech (Hon) Agriculture Engineering:

  • Passed 10+2 or equivalent exam with English and one of the following groups of compulsory subjects:

    • Physics, chemistry, mathematics

    • Physics, chemistry, mathematics, biology

  • Obtained score in Common Entrance Test conducted by the Competent Authority

BSc (Hon) Community Science, BTech Biotechnology, BSc(Hon) Agribusiness Management:

  • Passed 10+2 or equivalent exam with English and one of the following groups of compulsory subjects:

    • Physics, chemistry, biology

    • Physics, chemistry, mathematics, biology

    • Physics, chemistry, mathematics

  • Obtained score in Common Entrance Test (For BTech Biotechnology students: PCB/PCM) conducted by the Competent Authority
