Bio

Hannes Leitgeb completed a Master’s (1997) and a PhD degree (1998) in Mathematics, and a PhD degree (2001) in Philosophy at the University of Salzburg, where he later worked as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Philosophy. In 2003 he received an Erwin-Schrödinger Fellowship from the Austrian Research Fund, which enabled him to carry out research in the Department of Philosophy/CSLI at Stanford University. In 2005 he took up a joint position as a Reader in the Departments of Philosophy and Mathematics at Bristol University, where he became Professor of Mathematical Logic and Philosophy of Mathematics in 2007. In autumn 2010 he was appointed to the Chair of Logic and Philosophy of Language at LMU Munich, he became an Alexander von Humboldt Professor, and he founded the Munich Center for Mathematical Philosophy at LMU whose head he has been since 2010.

Hannes Leitgeb's research interests are in logic, epistemology, philosophy of mathematics, philosophy of language, cognitive science, philosophy of science, and the history of Logical Positivism. He is the Coordinating Editor of the Review of Symbolic Logic and the Editor-in-chief of the journal Erkenntnis.
