About the Course

If you’re reading this, you’re likely interested in exploring applied computational fluid dynamics (CFD) using the Simcenter STAR-CCM+ software or another CFD tool. This course can be a first step in improving your job performance and furthering your career or educational trajectory. We’ve created this course to help you use the knowledge of flow physics and computational fluid dynamics to obtain quality solutions of flow and heat transfer problems most efficiently. This course is not about instructions on how to use a particular software. Simcenter STAR-CCM+ was used exclusively for all simulations presented in this course. Still, the learning outcomes would be the same if another public or commercial software were used, as long as it has the same capabilities....

A good course on applied CFD that you can take to understand the flows encountered in engineering applications. Although SIMCENTER STAR - CCM+ is not used, the main purpose is to understand the optimal grid settings for a given test case based on the knowledge of the possible flow. Although, Professor Peric doesn't explain in detail, in some examples, why particular mesh method or turbulence model is used; he emphasizes more on what kind of results you can expect and why such results are to be expected. Familiarity with basic CFD and turbulence modeling is required. Good knowledge of Fluid Mechanics is must to thoroughly understand the course. Overall, a nice course to broaden one's understanding of applied CFD.

If a self-study university course was an online course, yep this it. If you are familiar with the concepts, you can easily clear the quizzes. This course is not recommended for absolute beginners. However, do try it for yourself. I wish Siemens would create a course on actually using the Simcenter STAR-CCM+. This course is just a professor explaining stuff. They even mention it in the VERY FIRST VIDEO that this is not a software-teaching course.

Everything is great, its just that there is a lack of basics and the language is a bit complex.
