About the Course

This is the seventh course in the Google Cybersecurity Certificate. These courses will equip you with the skills you need to apply for an entry-level cybersecurity job. You’ll build on your understanding of the topics that were introduced in the sixth Google Cybersecurity Certificate course. In this course, you will be introduced to the Python programming language and apply it in a cybersecurity setting to automate tasks. You'll start by focusing on foundational Python programming concepts, including data types, variables, conditional statements, and iterative statements. You'll also learn to work with Python effectively by developing functions, using libraries and modules, and making your code readable. In addition, you'll work with string and list data, and learn how to import, parse and debug files. Google employees who currently work in cybersecurity will guide you through videos, provide hands-on activities and examples that simulate common cybersecurity tasks, and help you build your skills to prepare for jobs. Learners who complete this certificate will be equipped to apply for entry-level cybersecurity roles. No previous experience is necessary. By the end of this course, you will: - Explain how the Python programming language is used in cybersecurity. - Write conditional and iterative statements in Python. - Create new, user-defined Python functions. - Use Python to work with strings and lists. - Use regular expressions to extract information from text. - Use Python to open and read the contents of a file. - Identify best practices to improve code readability. - Practice debugging code....

Outstanding content! Helped me immensely to refresh my knowledge of python and add to it. Plenty of hands-on labs and exercises. Great instructor. I thank Google and Coursera for this quality content.

2 stars for efforts but I don't think it was a good idea to show basics of Python like how to print strings and what is an if statement... to people who take automation of cybersecurity tasks using python... Big portion of this class is a basic programming class, Task 1: how to print and what do you see... Task 2: You can also add comments.. .What do you see when you run a comment... Task 3: Write the comment to say `# This cell displays "I am using Python."`. Be sure to replace the `# YOUR COMMENT HERE` with your own comment before running the following cell. I think they were too lazy to put relevant content... it was too boring. Is it really what google offer?

It was difficult to understand the presenter at times. Also, the material is much, much harder than any of the other courses. It starts easy but builds much too quickly without giving a chance to solidify fundamentals. Newcomers will without a doubt be overwhelmed and unable to progress.

Need a different proctor. The one lecturing in the videos of this course is VERY hard to understand and the onscreen graphics are very lacking. I made it through, but will surely neeed to take another Python course to feel more confident.

This was extremely difficult for a beginner, and despite putting in the time, I struggled the whole way through.

Very hard course for somebody with no coding experience.

They start by drip feeding you information in a way that is easy to understand. That's the first half of module 1. The second half is being force fed through 2 fire hoses at the same time. The course goes from a 2/10 difficulty for someone who has never used Python and very quickly jumps to 11/10 and immediately expects you to be able to apply what was thrown at you. They provide hints, however these hints are almost completely useless when you get stuck trying to figure out how to appropriately form the syntax for Python. you can learn a lot but you can very quickly get overwhelmed.

The labs didn't give nearly enough information on how to complete them compared to other labs throughout the course and were incredibly difficult. I only learned what I was doing through the exemplars that explained each step carefully. There was not enough practice within each lab to properly expand user knowledge of Python. Though I did learn the basics of the program, I do not feel as though I could use Python effectively.

I did not appreciate the linguistic skills of the presenter, they were quite difficult to understand, especially when dealing with code.

with a tutor, it would be a lot easier to understand it better but it wasn't easy and it will take me a little more practice.
