About the Course

In this course, you’ll learn the basic fundamentals of corporate finance. Based on the pre-term qualifying courses for Wharton MBA students, Professor Jessica Wachter has designed this course for learners who need a refresher in financial concepts, or for those who are learning about corporate finance for the first time. You’ll identify foundational concepts in corporate finance, such as NPV, Compound and Simple Interest, and Annuities versus Perpetuities. You’ll also learn how to apply the NPV framework to calculating fixed-income valuation and Equity, using hypothetical examples of corporate projects. By the end of this course, you’ll have honed your skills in calculating risk and returns to optimize investments, and be able to assess the right set of financial information to achieve better returns for your firm....

The teacher is very knowledgeable but sometimes passes some topics too fast and its hard to grasp the concept and the idea. The quizzes are not according to the classes that are given.

The notes for this course were excellent, and the lectures were concise and easy to follow. Prof. Wachter is easy to listen to and is relaxed and helpful in her explanations.

As a beginner I feel as though the concepts were not fully explained by the professor. It would also have been more beneficial if we went through examples of the questions together with the teacher in the videos. In addition, I feel as though the videos were short and rushed. I often found myself having to teach myself the keywords. It was interesting to learn about it, but I am not going to complete the rest of the specialization due to this first course. I believe that this course would be more suited to an intermediate level.

Compared to the other finance courses within Wharton, this one seemed to over complicate simple concepts and focused too much on theory rather than practical application. I don't think people a really interested in the derivations, just how to use the concepts.

instructor is very dry and does not explain the material in an easy to understand manner. This makes the course very tough. The discussion blog helped more than the instructor. Some of the test answers are not correct, some are rounding errors.

Class speaker is dry, content is all written and difficult to follow, quizzes have many open ended answers which can cause incorrect responses if not entered exactly to two decimal places.

Basic concepts are decent but it needs to be 3-4x as long because all the interesting material is in the optional week 5 and constitutes nothing but "additional readings".

Broken Courses, No responses in Forums. 2 Stars because there is some content that provides information. Can't advance through though.

I had to drop out of this course because it was extremely difficult and poorly designed. The instructor just scribbles formulas in the videos without explaining where they come from, states that things are "obvious" when they are very much not, and does not give enough practice problems to help explain the concepts. This is the worst taught course I have ever taken and I was extremely disappointed. I have a math background (took a lot of math courses in college), and I still didn't understand the material. This is absolutely NOT an intro-level course. The way the course is structured is there are a bunch of videos to watch per module, then there is the module quiz. The module quiz has problems that are exponentially harder than anything she has talked about in the videos. We did not do similar problems in the videos. I simply could not pass the quiz, despite watching all the videos, reading all the notes, and watching youtube videos to explain the concepts. I spent hours and hours on trying to learn the material, only to fail the module quiz. So I have to give up.

How is this beginner ? I actually had knowledge of some concepts and formulas and this course only CONFUSED ME and muddled my knowledge. The notes are terrible and useless. Quiz questions are irrelevent to what is in the videos and the explanantions provide no insight o depth about the concepts. Handwriting is horrible to follow with and the slides are worse. Howe is one to study or review and prepare for thge quizzes that do not make sense and also why are they all written ???? Worst online courses I ever did along with the fact that I did a whole 4-years college degree online.

Not really for beginners, the lecturer assumes we already know many terms and the formulas are just thrown at the student. The exercises are way too difficult, the lectures are not enough to solve the exercices, I could not finish the course given there is no support or explanation for the exercises and the class notes are not helpful.

This is not a good course. I've had a pretty good experience with everything else I've taken through coursera. This one is MUCH harder to follow than the other courses in this series and the quizes don't align all that well with the material. I wish Wharton would kick off the finance series with a different one.

Awful commentary, constantly mis-speaking and not writing the same as the words she was saying. With so many formulas, it's important to be correct and exact. Will not be doing any more Pennsylvania courses going forward.

I am extremely sorry, but I can't complete this course.

No way it is suitable for begginners. No clear explanation, just formulas. Impossible to proceed without preparation. I have to resign.
