About the Course

This is a survey of modern history from a global perspective. Part One begins with the political and economic revolutions of the late 1700s and tracks the transformation of the world during the 1800s. Part One concludes as these bewildering changes seem to be running beyond the capacity of older institutions to handle them. Throughout the course we try to grasp what is happening and ask: Why? And the answers often turn on very human choices....

Dear Professor,

I am fascinated with week one, even though I work in the scientific side, also like history, nothing more rewarding than visiting and ancient place and know what happened... Thanks

Excellent if concise overview of a fascinating period of Global History. Presented in a very engaging manner but with a logicakl structure to tie together what often appeared to be disparate strands.

Excellent overview of the period. Engaging professor who alternates well between zooming in and keeping the big picture. The course could do with some readings or notes separate from lecture transcripts to cement a few topics.

Very interesting, and probably useful too, as a student starting UK A-Levels next year. I thought it was slightly Eurocentric, but unlike many others taking the course, I was quite happy with it being rather self-contained.

Interesting course, well presented with just the right amount of charts and graphics, a talk and chalk approach. Some of the diagrams could have been higher resolution to enable better understanding on a first run through

There is a lot of information contained in the course, but it is displayed in a nice and easy to follow way. In addition, in my opinion it conveys well the dynamism and magnitude of the changes in the period studied.

Instructive and entertaining. Comprehensive (to the extent it's possible given the enormous size of the subject). Good to learn the big-picture, then dive deeper into places and times of special interest to you.

Very Informative. I just wish it covered more than the history of the West since it is entitled Global history. There's barely any history on Africa for example except from the perspective of a source of slaves.

Great starting course for those wanting to dive into modern World History. Lots of important topics are taught in enough detail to interest the student in learning more.

I think the course is interesting, but very general.

The lecturer is very good and all presentations are clear.

There is a lack of references and links to self-study.

Very broad history, good for people who want to cover a lot of basic history. The professor is easy to listen to and gives great examples for better understanding!

Very informative and well presented. This course is a good way to begin a study of world history by providing a foundation from which to start further readings.

I WOULD RATHER NOT JUST VIDEOS BUT VARIOUS MATERIALS. THEY COULD HAVE YOUR LECTURE MORE DIDACTIC AND ALSO PLEASED. NEVERTHELESS, IT WAS AN EDUCATIONAL LECTURE.

Interesting & provided broad coverage of world events. I'm not good at subjects like History so I struggled. Hopefully I will retain some knowledge

I liked the approach of the topic and the narration style. The focus on finding reasons behind historical moments is a good feature of this course.

A great course that provided an excellent overview of a huge amount of material, and did it in a way that made it understandable and digestable.

Very interesting. Delivery was somewhat dry and the Quiz questions are a little tricky, but overall I learned a bit about history.

Very engaging professor, easily understood. The obvious editing was very distracting and made one wonder what was being deleted.

Course presentations are very, very interesting. However, quizzes only very poorly assess the knowledge of the participants.

A veces la dinámica del curso fue muy monótona. Del resto estuvo excelente, corto y comprensible.
