About the Course

This course will help you be a better negotiator. Unlike many negotiation courses, we develop a framework for analyzing and shaping negotiations. This framework will allow you to make principled arguments that persuade others. It will allow you to see beneath the surface of apparent conflicts to uncover the underlying interests. You will leave the course better able to predict, interpret, and shape the behavior of those you face in competitive situations. In this course, you will have several opportunities to negotiate with other students using case studies based on common situations in business and in life. You can get feedback on your performance and compare what you did to how others approached the same scenario. The cases also provide a setting to discuss a wide-ranging set of topics including preparing for a negotiation, making ultimatums, avoiding regret, expanding the pie, and dealing with someone who has a very different perspective on the world. Advanced topics include negotiating when you have no power, negotiating over email, and the role of gender differences in negotiation. To close out the course, we will hear insights from three negotiation experts: Linda Babcock, Herb Cohen, and John McCall MacBain. Enjoy....

I have completed over 12 courses on Coursera and this one is the best presented of them all. You can learn a lot of un-intuitive things about negotiation that will serve you well in life and business.

I recently completed the "Introduction to Negotiation: A Strategic Playbook for Becoming a Principled and Persuasive Negotiator" course, and I must say it exceeded my expectations in every aspect. This well-structured and engaging course provided a comprehensive overview of the art and science of negotiation, equipping me with valuable skills that extend far beyond the negotiating table. The course began with a solid foundation, delving into the fundamental principles of negotiation. The instructors skillfully blended theoretical concepts with real-world examples, making complex ideas accessible and applicable. Tremendously informative. One of the best courses I’ve ever taken. One excellent aspect I liked about the course was they “weren’t going to let you slide”. In other words , the course taker student had to pass each of the five Mastery Quiz’s in order to go on to the next session. Well, if you’re going to take a course, you might as well learn something. Also, I’ve taken a lifetime of sales & marketing courses /seminars on negotiations during my working career. This course was often a cumulation of what I learned but greatly enhanced.

Honestly, I never imagined this course could be so interesting. The way it is prepared - very well done instructive videos, readings and exercises - but the most importantly - the best part - the real negotiations themselves, it just gives the motivation to continue.

Of course, if one wants to be good prepared for a negotiation, it can consume some amount of free time. However, it was fun and I´m little bit disappointed that it is the end of the course,

Course has several strongholds. Content is excellent. Format always combine well explained theory with real cases application. It requires interaction with other participants to develop the negotiation cases. There's a well define list of deliverables and tests that help on the ryhtm and knowledge assimilation. On a nutshell, I really recommend this course for those who want to take a first step and engage on negotiation framework/knowledge.

This was an excellent course. Mr. Nalebuff does a great job in making this course interactive and interesting. You may also benefit from the wisdom of Mr. Cohen and Ms. Babcock both of whom are renowned negotiators. This course deals with complicated concepts but the instructors do a great job in simplifying and explaining them. I recommend this for anyone looking to be a better and more strategic negotiator.

It's incredible to learn how you might be succeed negotiating understanding what it is about, understanding others and specially developing strategies and becoming a good negotiator looking inside yourself at same time that you want a win-win deal that will benefit both sides. It's a really good course that also allows you to meet new people and learn from them.

Was a very effective course where I learned the concepts to be a better negotiator. The cases and negotiations with other colleagues where very important for negotiation preparation and practice. The videos where very good. would be great if there is a course manual, even short with the concepts taught.

Worth it. Although it could be a very complex topic, it is well explained and easy to follow. Even the most difficult topics are well presented here. And the examples are entertaining. This is a course that everybody should take, regardless of the field of study or work that you are doing.

Excellent course for people who just started to learn about negotiation or want to add additional tool set for negotiation. This course helps me see different perspective in negotiation. I have applied this method successfully several times and it works surprisingly well!

This is one of the two best courses I have done on Coursera. The content is great and Prof Nalebuff is amazing. The course is not easy but you will learn life skills in this course, if you put in the hard work. Highly recommend it for all ages and all levels.
