About the Course

This is the third course in the Google Cybersecurity Certificate. These courses will equip you with the skills you need to apply for an entry-level cybersecurity job. You’ll build on your understanding of the topics that were introduced in the second Google Cybersecurity Certificate course. In this course, you will explore how networks connect multiple devices and allow them to communicate. You'll start with the fundamentals of modern networking operations and protocols. For example, you'll learn about the Transmission Control Protocol / Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) model and how network hardware, like routers and modems, allow your computer to send and receive information on the internet. Then, you'll learn about network security. Organizations often store and send valuable information on their networks, so networks are common targets of cyber attacks. By the end of this course, you'll be able to recognize network-level vulnerabilities, and explain how to secure a network using firewalls, system hardening, and virtual private networks. Google employees who currently work in cybersecurity will guide you through videos, provide hands-on activities and examples that simulate common cybersecurity tasks, and help you build your skills to prepare for jobs. Learners who complete this certificate will be equipped to apply for entry-level cybersecurity roles. No previous experience is necessary. By the end of this course, you will: - Describe the structure of different computer networks. - Illustrate how data is sent and received over a network. - Recognize common network protocols. - Identify common network security measures and protocols. - Explain how to secure a network against intrusion tactics. - Compare and contrast local networks to cloud computing. - Explain the different types of system hardening techniques....

Like guiding through network and security elements ... fast. Challenging and rich in content but not going into too deep. The following courses in the certificate will delve deeper, I imagine.

It's basically the same as online college. Them talking at you and a whole bunch of reading, which you'll eventually forget. No hands-on practice at all

I enjoyed this course more than the others since beginning the Google Cybersecurity Certification. It covers a lot of information, but makes it very digestible to the average person.

The course was very boring, could not understand much, no hands on experience just writing a documenting stuffs. I really did not understand what was that exemplars activity was about without guiding nicely.

A LOT of theory a bit to little practices IMO, they just throw you in, and "solve this", without properly guiding you, could be improved.

Great teacher tho, explains everything neatly.

Simply amazing, just LOTS of resources and new information. Couldn't have asked for a better explanation to be honest. Felt overwhelming sometimes but I loved every detail about this one!

These were all new concepts for me, and the teachers at Google did a great job breaking down the concepts and putting them into bite-sized pieces so I could understand and learn them.

The lack of examples and guidance was super frustrating, and the how to read the logs information provided was not very helpful either. A lesson should've been provided on how to actually interpret and use the resources. I had to rely on youtube and other sources for a lot of further explanation. I would've liked to see them use their Rhyme program for some of these activities, it would've been super helpful in making the example reports.

Sweet and straight to the point , content is good, some assignment could be made more interactive than just text and jarring text to read . but otherwise you learn a lot

I feel like the videos did not align well with the text content and the larger projects seemed too large and overwhelming - I would've preferred a more gradual project introduction. The text content should enforce what the video content showed, not introduce entirely new information.

Google's Cybersecurity Specialisation Course 3 was challenging as expected. However the content was good in covering the following concepts for beginners:

-Network components/devices/diagrams

-TCP/IP model, OSI model

-IPv4 vs IPv6 components

-firewall/VPN/subnet/CIDR

-types of network attacks, DDoS

-OS hardening techniques

-network hardening techniques (such as where to place firewall, intrusion detection or prevention systems IDS/IPS in a network and visualised using example network diagrams)

This course is the most formal education about networks and network security. Other courses from different organizations teach a lot but they are not as formal as they need to be. This can be greatly important for interview preparations as well as learning the core concepts about networking at a foundational level.

I gave this course only 3 stars due to it being extremely overwhelming. It was really long and a lot of information to review.

I'll be honest, this course nearly turned me off of this certificate entirely. The concepts themselves were not challenging - I can memorize anything. There was a complete lack of context provided in the videos and readings. How am I supposed to relate these dozens of new concepts to anything without real world examples? Shoving a dictionary full of acronyms in my face is not learning. Giving me weird metaphors to decipher about houses and letters is not learning. I found myself seeking (free!) resources outside of this course to better understand the terms introduced to me (YouTube, cybersecurity forums, etc). I used flashcards to memorize protocols and found myself needing to constantly review my notes prior to jumping in to a new session. The worst part is that after finally completing this course, it is so very clear to me that network security is easily the most important domain - it is the birthplace of keeping data within an organization secure. And yet it has been the least accessible course thus far.

Very lengthy and complex to understand but all aspects are covered very precisely and effectively to manage network protocols and assess threats while practicing security methods.

Had a mesmerizing and fun experience doing this course as it makes networks fundamentals strong and crisp to remember.
