About the Course

The purpose of this course is to provide you with a basic understanding of the connections between money, the financial system, and the broader macroeconomy. We will examine the economics of modern financial institutions (e.g. banks), including how they are organized, the products and financial services they offer, the risks they take, why and how they are regulated, and how this has changed over time. We will develop a conceptual framework that will allow us to assess how recent financial regulations as well as innovations in finance (e.g., securitization, fintech, cryptocurrencies) may influence the macroeconomic, financial, and business environment....

This course is designed in a very monotonous way. The content itself is fine but the way in which the concepts have been imparted is not at all good. The instructor speaks in a very serious and monotonous way which makes it very hard to follow him or pay attention. This makes learning difficult. Apart from this, there are errors too in some of the quizzes. Some questions have been repeated in some quizzes and the answer is different in every one of them for the exact same question. Because of this, you wouldn't even know which is the exact correct answer and they don't even give a proper feedback after you have finished to quiz. It just states which questions you got right and which ones you got wrong. It does not tell you the reason. Because of all these reasons, I've rated this course 3.

This course is sold as intermediate, but really is a beginners level. Touches many topics but fails to get into the depth. Looking for more specialized courses for advanced levels. Second, information is unbalanced concerning the banking sector. FED purchased certainly not only good credit after 2008. Purchased RMBS at face value for example. That makes a course more lively when failures are included. Third missing how the transfer of funds from MM to CM flows, using balance sheets. Recommend Economics of Banking from Barnard P. Mehrling. In all a superficial course that does satisfy the curious learner. Please contact me with a more in-depth course for my pleasure, thanks.
