About the Course

Working with databases is a key skill for developers, especially those in Back-End, Full Stack, and DevOps roles. This course will teach you the fundamentals of relational databases and how to access them from your applications. Some of the essential application development tasks include accessing, processing, and presenting data. Data is stored in various databases, either on-premise or on the cloud, and developers will need to learn how to talk to them via programming languages. In this course, you’ll learn about foundational database concepts, and basics of SQL, a simple and powerful programming language used for managing data. In addition to SQL, you will discover how Object-Relational Mapping (ORM) allows you to use Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) languages like Python to work with databases. You will gain full-stack Django skills by creating a Django web app to persist, process, and present data. And you will get hands-on experience deploying your Django web app on the cloud. Throughout this course you will practice with hands-on labs. You will also complete a final project at the end of the course to demonstrate what you have learnt and have a great addition to your portfolio!...

This course was packed with a lot of information that needs to be unpacked.

The onus is on you to find the solutions and more information elsewhere which is

what you have to do in the real world.

I really enjoyed it. The cloud code environment sometimes has issues but I was able to code on

my own local environment since you are provided with instructions.

I gave it 4 stars because the skills network coding platform can be frustrating but I do highly

recommend the course!

Starts off with a one week review of relational databases and SQL, which ends up being mostly irrelevant. Weeks 2, 3 and 4 provide a reasonable introduction to Django and forms a decent learning experience. Week 5 is the final project, which is a waste of time. It comprises a hugely overinflated and overcomplicated project, into which you copy paste template code as required until finished. This final project needs to be massively reduced in scope, to a much simpler model and task, so that students can actually be challenged to write their own code and demonstrate what they have learnt. As it stands now, the final project provides no indication of what a student has learnt about Django.

The final assessment is using outdated commands. So if you're not very familiar with python setup you lose about an hour getting started. Not to mention the time it takes to debug the outdated commands
