When you complete the MSSE curriculum you will have the knowledge, skills, and mindset required to ensure success in professional software engineering positions in business, industry, research, or governmental service.
You will graduate with the ability to identify and analyze user and client needs and to implement or create software-based solutions. Most MSSE students begin the program while in senior technical roles, but after graduation, the majority advance to leadership positions, according to 2021 alumni survey data. Sixty-two percent of graduates increased their salary or got a promotion.
The West Virginia team of career development specialists are ready to assist with resume reviews, practice interviews, or job search coaching. Online students can use these resources any time. The Career Services team is also available to assist with building a resume, writing cover and thank you letters, designing an elevator pitch and succeeding at career fairs. These resources will be available to you as an alumni.
MSSE graduates have lifelong access to the WVU Alumni Association, an association focused on creating connection and community for people who love West Virginia University. The association has frequent webinars that focus on alumni stories, learning tools and conversations, and more. The association aims to connect West Virginia University alumni (Mountaineers) around the world through hiring groups, Class Chatter updates, alumni oral history projects, and much more.
