Statista projects the market for digital health services in India to reach 9.9 billion USD in 2029, up from an estimated 5.4 billion USD in 2024 [1]. Precedence Research predicts a global health informatics market of 41.62 billion USD in 2024 with a compounded growth rate of 11.82 percent annually through 2034, landing at a whopping 127.21 billion USD total global market that year [2].

India, with a rapidly growing tech industry, is poised to become a leader in health informatics by turning that industry into the nation’s healthcare system and implementing technological solutions to improve access and performance.

For example, a registered health information technician (RHIT) earns an average base salary of ₹3,18,000 [3], while the average clinical data analyst earns an average of ₹3,92,035 [4]. Health informatics salary by education

Education can strongly impact what you can expect to make as a health informatics professional. While you don’t need a terminal degree to land a job in some health informatics positions, your employment prospects and salary typically increase the higher your educational level is. To further your career in health informatics, the first step is to earn your bachelor’s degree. After, you can choose from postgraduate degree programmes, a Master’s of Science in Health Informatics, or an integrated master’s and PhD programme. 

Postgraduate degree programmes

After earning your bachelor’s degree in technology or science, you will be qualified to enroll in a postgraduate diploma program to help you learn skills specific to health informatics. For example, the Post Graduate Diploma in Health Informatics (PGDHI) offered by Centre for Health Management and Research (CHMR) takes 12 months to complete after earning your bachelor’s degree. Another example of such a programme is the Post Graduate Diploma in Healthcare Informatics and Analytics (PGDHIA) offered by Symbiosis Institute of Health Sciences. 

With a PG diploma, you can start working as an informatics analyst, clinical informaticist, or chief medical information officer.

Master’s of Science in health informatics or health informatics and analytics

Your next option is to pursue a master’s degree. A master’s degree in health informatics or analytics is typically a two-year programme that can help you prepare for a career as a healthcare executive, technical consultant, healthcare developer, or system analyst.

  • System analyst: ₹8,48,000

Integrated master’s and PhD
