This is a great course. The primary feature is the number of worked and practice problems. Instead of memorizing, one learns by doing. Short of being in the lab, this is the next best thing.

Sorry to say that, but it as way too wordy. Being an introductory course, it overloads you with an excessive information and unnecessary details on each point, however it fails giving you the whole picture of "Chemistry"

This class is taught so well! I have deep gratitude for the time and effort put into this chemistry course. Here you have the type of professor that understands and has internalized when and where students get confused to then teaches accordingly- on top of that, a natural gift for teaching. University of Kentucky: you are SO LUCKY to have this level of professorship. And it is a gift to humanity that it is available online.
Please do O-Chem. My hot tip: if you do all the pre-requisite courses for the MCAT, I promise you'll soon have a flock of students from all over for many years to come. I have never understood these chemistry topics as well as I do now.
Thanks also to the IT people at UofK that put this together.
Don't worry I will write this up in my official review as well. ALSO how cool was that Thermite experiment?!?!
I am looking forward to the Advanced Chemistry course. Thanks again.

Absolutely great course! I completed the course as a homeschooled 9th grader, and saying that it helped me develop a passion for chemistry is an understatement. After participating three times in the National Chemistry Olympiad in Mexico during high school, I was accepted to Yale for college. I am now one year away from graduating with a B.S. in chemistry and ample research experience. I plan to pursue a Ph.D. in computational chemistry. I am incredibly grateful to Dr. Allison Soult and Dr. Kim Woodrum for providing such a high-quality free course that gave me all the fundamentals for my career. And for making it so accessible and exciting. Even if you are not considering a career in chemistry, the insights this course will give you into how the world around you works are invaluable. (And you should take the Advanced Chemistry course after this one!)

Absolutely wonderful course with the best professors! Before, all of my chemistry learning experience used to be a disaster. After this course, I now feel like I know a lot of chemistry and I feel like I really learned and understood the subject. The course is well designed and one is guided through problem solving which makes one really learn the matter. Highly recommend this course to anyone who wants to learn the basics of chemistry, and also to those who may want to refresh or better understand the subject.

Great course.
I would have loved it if pH calculations were added after the concentration part of the stoichiometry unit, and colligative properties too.
If you like their explanations, you can find it in their "Advanced Chemistry" course, on the 4th unit if I am not wrong, but pH is important. Of course I am not talking about the Ka calculations, but the M ones are really important.
In the covalent bonding unit I would have added intermolecular forces.

I learned Chemistry at College more than 40 years ago. A lot of terms and concepts are new to me (or I have forgotten them totally). My motivation of attending this course is to understand some health or genetics terms easier. This course helps me a lot on those aspects. Great courses and thanks to the instructors and all the people behind the courses!

It is a really good college-level introduction to chemistry. Some basic chemistry knowledge is assumed. Course should be coupled with another higher level chemistry course to complete the year-long chemistry requierement in most schools. Overall, a very good course with great video content and useful worksheets. Would totally recommend.

This course was very informative and educational. It helps me in developing my basic skills and knowledge of chemistry. The tutors are very professional and did an excellent job. I have learned a lot and I wish to recommend this course to anyone who wishes to pursue a chemistry course with Coursera.

This was an excellent course to prepare me for starting grad school after 20 years of working in the real world after college. I not only refreshed my knowledge of chemistry from my undergraduate days, but I learned many things that I never picked up in my undergraduate chemistry course!

Challenging course. Took me longer than 7 weeks but it was worth the time and effort spent. Teaching and topics did a great job the quizzes helped me along. I took several notes along the way which helped when I got to the end. Without my notes I would have been in trouble for sure.

Outstanding! Very nice professors. Very clear lectures. Lots of exercises and quizzes. Charming soft southern accents. This course covers about 1/2 of a typical Freshman college course. Take the course called "Advanced Chemistry" for the second half of Freshman Chemistry.

I'm a high school sophomore and took this class out of curiosity since I was really enjoying my Chemistry class at school. I can say with confidence that this course has helped me excel in that class and led me to find my passion for the sciences. Thank you for the experience!
