About the Course

"Microservices" describes a software design pattern in which an application is a collection of loosely coupled services. These services are fine-grained, and can be individually maintained and scaled. The microservices architecture is ideal for the public cloud, with its focus on elastic scaling with on-demand resources. In this course, you will learn how to build Java applications using Spring Boot and Spring Cloud on Google Cloud. You'll use Spring Cloud Config to manage your application's configuration. You'll send and receive messages with Pub/Sub and Spring Integration. You'll also use Cloud SQL as a managed relational database for your Java applications, and learn how to migrate to Spanner, which is Google Cloud's globally-distributed strongly consistent database service. You'll also learn about tracing and debugging your Spring applications with Google Cloud Observability. To succeed in this course, you should be familiar with the Java programming language and building Java applications with tools such as Maven or Gradle. You should also have general knowledge of Google Cloud. >>> By enrolling in this course you agree to the Qwiklabs Terms of Service as set out in the FAQ and located at: https://qwiklabs.com/terms_of_service <<<...

Unfortunately the course uses an older version of Spring and dependencies and the tutorials do not work out of the box. Some fixes in the dependencies are required.

I liked the course, it is basic, but it shows the GCP services well.

Too bad I had problems in some labs and the forum doesn't help much either.

There needs to be more clarity and examples. A lot of the steps didn't work.

It was a course about GCP products more than java nor microservices.

This pathetic course, please dont buy any course at courseera. They dont have any customer support or chat line. Also the material is worst. Every lab full with issues and errors and ultimately you will not complete any one of them. At end they offered you certificate without any lab completion or learning. How can I get certificate from Google cloud without any learning or completion of assignment? This is full fake website and not recommended to anyone.

This course is very poor in my opinion. It's not really a course, rather just a bunch of recipes on how to do fairly standard simple things, delivered via a bunch of cut and paste "labs" which are more tedious than educational. To see how courses are actually "done", check out Amazon's AWS serverless java apps course. You're much better of searching the web on how to do these bog standard things than taking this course. Sorry.

5 of the lessons did not work.

* Lesson did not download the files needed for course

* Lesson is a Gradle project and provides instructions for updating Maven project files

* Lesson does not compile

* Lesson provides instructions for Navigation menu that does not exist. Google updated the UI and forgot to update the tutorial.

Complete waste of time. Find a different course.

I don't like the course, i did not learn anything about springboot, poor videos, labs without no context and no califications. You just have to copy and paste all time with no context of what are you doing. This seems to be something more like a promotion of GCP product than something that i can learn in deep.

IMPORTANT: You are not going to learn anything about Java, Microservices or Spring Boot (you will need to inspect the whole repo to learn by yourself), people will need to be autonomous and make further research to learn about this project, the course itself is not going to work.

As others have suggested, this course is quite superficial, mostly a showcase of spring / gcp integrations but no depth. The labs have quite a few isseus: deprecated commands, misleading information, and steps that just don't work anymore.
