About the Course

Management consultants are paid well because they help executives to break down complex problems, make difficult decisions, and implement lasting change. Consultants know how to work smart and fast. Taught by an ex-consultant from Deloitte, John Kim will give you a quick introduction to management consulting: • What do management consultants do? • What are the benefits of a consulting career? • How can you learn these consulting skills? • Why do clients hire management consultants? • What is an example of a consulting skill? Thank You for an Outstanding Course! Prof. John Kim, I wanted to take a moment to express my sincere gratitude for the exceptional course you delivered on business management consulting. Management consulting plays a crucial role in today’s business landscape. It provides organizations with expert advice and strategies to enhance their performance, solve complex problems, and drive innovation. Your course has shed light on these vital aspects, and I found it incredibly insightful. I would especially like to commend you on your remarkable ability to present information visually in a powerful and effective manner. This not only made the content more engaging but also significantly enhanced my understanding and retention of the material. What I appreciated the most were the examples you shared and the real-life experiences you referenced throughout the course. They provided practical context to the theoretical concepts and allowed for maximum learning and application. It is clear that you are passionate about teaching and committed to helping your students succeed.

Thanks for this introduction. I started work 50 years ago with a CPA firm and told them that I wanted to get involved in Management Services which was then the CPA term for Management Consulting. I was met with "I am sure our clients know more about their business than we ever will". For 20 years it was an uphill struggle to do any consulting. Finally, I left and went into the computer consulting and systems design business and have been happy ever since. I got to see real change being made rather than doing audits and taxes just because it was time to do it again. I am taking this course to fulfill my CPA continuing education requirements but I intend to keep working and consulting until my clients think I am too "old school" to matter. That is another reason to take these Coursera, Udemy, and other courses so that I can stay relevant. Thanks, again.

Professor Kim is a fantastic professor, and I do not say that lightly. Before joining his course, I felt directionless in my future career path; I was a 2022 COVID-19 graduate who left college without much experience because of that, and I did not know where I was going to go with my Economics degree. After trying many different jobs across an array of business fields, I felt completely and utterly stuck. I researched consulting on a whim and decided to give it a chance if there was an open course on Coursera. Here I am, having completed the introductory course, and I am buzzing to start part two. I finally have a career goal that genuinely suits my intellectual and creative skill set. Thank you, Professor Kim!

Overall, I would highly recommend this course. This course provides value in not only providing an overview of consulting, but also serving as a model for how to teach an course to a large audience in general. I have sat through many lectures both in-person and virtually, and John is one of the best I have seen in simplifying complex topics in an engaging manner. I firmly believe that the higher education system in general would be more efficient and effective if more educators followed John's best practices for teaching.

I am really gratified that I came across this course. Being a research student who's inclined to transition to consulting, this course definitely gave me a strong overview of what consulting is and what it looks like? I'd never forget the easy definition of a Consultant that Prof. Kim gave. Looking forward to the next courses and learning more about consulting from him. Thank you so so much for your 8 months of hard work and putting this great work of art for the learners like me out there.

Thank you for putting this course together! I'm currently a "ladder" hoping to be an "airplane" one day. I'm not sure if I can without a degree, but I do know that over my 20+ years in management I've encountered a lot and helped to build many successful teams. I'm going to continue with this course as I know there are things I can learn and apply in my current position. If I am able to start my own consulting business, please know that you are the first teacher guiding me towards that!

Insightful course that gives an information - what is consulting, what character does consulting practice build within a practicing professional, what are requirements to be successful - like asking great questions, being structured and patient while dealing with clients and so on. I would recommend this course every working professional who is seeking to climb the organizational hierarchy as well as burgeon his own personal character in a different way.

The course is really helpful. I like the content, how it is explained step by step in detail. I have just started my journey in consulting career and this course by John Kim really helped me understand the basics of consulting, what consulting is, what do they do and why do do client hire them. The quizzes are helpful as well. I recommend everyone who are just kick-starting their career or are already working in this field to take this course.

Excellent course! The pace of the course was perfect and John has a really engaging and thoughtful way of explaining concepts. He offered clear guidance on how to move forward in consulting whether you're new, an experience manager at an organization, or an entrepreneur. He offered much food-for thought on how to be strategic with defining your consultant career and how to work with clients. I also loved the resources he shared.

This is my first course and I believe that when I complete the specialization it will help me to obtain my goal to become an internal consultant with my present employer. John Kim is an engaging lecturer who has both knowledge and experience in the field of management consulting. I also got a copy of his book which is a companion of the specialization. It is a great way to review each course prior to the final assignment.

Very nice introductive course. Feels more like a talk at a coffee shop than an actual course and you don't even notice when it comes to an end - except for the quiz and tasks :P Definitely recommend, to graduates but also to more experienced individuals who want to tackle this domain, change careers or just want to have a more in depth feel from someone with expertise.

I appreciate John delivered a great course of 'Introduction to Management Consulting'. He explained detailed information about management consulting which make me more informed about the industry and consultants themselves. It's quite helpful for me to understand and broad and narrow scope in this domain knowledge. Sure, it is quite a pleasurable journey.

This is the first course and I have been glued to this entire specialization since last Friday. Not only does Mr. Kim teach so well and simple for those new to management consulting, but he is entertaining. I am not even an MBA student or the target audience for the specialization (I am a recent undergraduate) and still love this specialization so far.

Great course as an introduction. You can probably skip it and move on to the next course in the specialization if you have some familiarity and are looking for tools/skills directly. The professor is great at providing clarity into concepts, and the pace is easy (though you can probably finish it quicker if you'd like to).

Although I have been consulting as a solopreneur for some time now, I found the course very interesting and informative. The model of the head, the heart, and the hands is beneficial as it can help a consultant understand their audience and what approach(s) they may have to take to complete the assignment successfully.

This course was a great introduction to Management Consulting. Although I have been consulting for the past 5 years, I have felt that I have both strengths and weaknesses. I am hoping that by bringing these forward that I will improve, learn and develop into a more rounded and efficient consultant for my clients.

A very good introduction to the specialization. As professional as it can get, the instructor is very cautious to have a lot of consistency in the core message throughout all of the lessons, referencing back, but not sounding repetitive. You can tell he is well prepared and has very good teaching skills
