We all negotiate on a daily basis. On a personal level, we negotiate with friends, family, landlords, car sellers and employers, among others. Negotiation is also the key to business success. No business can survive without profitable contracts. Within a company, negotiation skills can lead to your career advancement. In the course, you’ll learn about and practice the four steps to a successful negotiation: (1) Prepare: Plan Your Negotiation Strategy (2) Negotiate: Use Key Tactics for Success (3) Close: Create a Contract (4) Perform and Evaluate: The End Game To successfully complete this course and improve your ability to negotiate, you’ll need to do the following: (1) Watch the short videos (ranging from 5 to 20 minutes). The videos are interactive and they include questions to test your understanding of negotiation strategy and skills. You can speed up or slow down videos to match your preferred pace for listening. Depending on your schedule, you can watch the videos over a few weeks or you can binge watch them. A learner who binge-watched the course concluded that “It’s as good as Breaking Bad.” Another learner compared the course to “House of Cards.” Both shows contain interesting examples of complex negotiations! (2) Test your negotiation skills by completing the negotiation in Module 6. You can negotiate with a local friend or use Discussions to find a partner from another part of the world. Your negotiation partner will give you feedback on your negotiation skills. To assist you with your negotiations, I have developed several free negotiating planning tools that are related to the course. These tools and a free app are available at http://negotiationplanner.com/ . The course also includes an opportunity to use an interactive experience where you can test your negotiation skills before starting the live negotiation. (3) Take the final exam. To successfully complete the course, you must answer 80% of the questions correctly. The exam is a Mastery Exam, which means that you can take it as many times as you want until you master the material. Course Certificate You have the option of earning a Course Certificate. A Certificate provides formal recognition of your achievements in the course and includes the University of Michigan logo. There is worthwhile cognitive insight imparted in this course. Most helpful is the importance of inspecting your view of a problem for faults in perception that limit positive outcomes for both parties in a negotiation. Learning this lesson, and practicing it, can make a considerable difference in a the fruitful outcome of a lifetime of interactions with other people. +++++

After some weeks, finally I can finish this course. I like how the instructor for explaining the materials of the course. They give you cases for the example of implementation and ask us to active solve cases although it's online course. I suggest, it will be better if explanation that instructor speak also can give detail in video. thanks you for the insights and knowledge

I handle various good purchases, this course made me to approach more scientifically than conventional methods. I liked the methodical and practical way of aporoaching negotiations as taught in this course.From preparation to performance and evaluation the course provides a scientific way of approaching negotiations.Maybe some content on exactly when negotiations start in a business environment especially in deal making ecosystems such as corporate sales,PPPs etc coyld be useful.

Professor George Siedel teaches amazingly! The way the concepts have been explained gives you a crystal clear idea of the situations as well as makes you apply them to similar other situations. For an online course it is truly engaging and rewarding. The no pressure and flexible approach means that you can go back to the course anytime time and time again. George J Seidel is just great. Easy to follow and importantly easy to understand. Without a doubt my favorite section (and tool) must be BATNA ANALYSIS - Using Decision Trees.

A beautifully composed course. I believe Professor Siedel poured all his best researches & experiences in preparing this course. The mind games & examples in the lecture videos really helps to align students' understanding towards the goal of course materials. Finally, the negotiation exercise shows example of applying those negotiation principles in a real scenario.

I really enjoyed the course. It was my first experience on Coursera and I am happy I could start my way here from Successful Negotiation! I like the stories & examples the professor gives. I see that he is a good teacher. Sometimes there were quiz tasks, which ask for information that wasn't in the course videos. so it was not really easy to pass the tests.

The course was very good. It touched on the fundamentals of Negotiation and how to apply this in real life situations. Professor Siedel was very thorough in his explanations in the videos. These helped create strategies needed when faced with a difficult situation and it gave us some form of skills to really put in place in a deal making decision.
