About the Course

The spirit of NewSpace is revolutionizing our vision of access to space. Reading keys will enable you to understand the technological and strategic challenges in games with new rules, fixed by ambitious players. Combine the new technologies and management of space access with the classical paradigm of the existing space context. It is difficult to give a definition of the New Space, but we can say that there are several aspects that characterize the New Space and access to space in the New Space: innovation, private actors, reducing the price of access to space, space for all, awareness of societal challenges. In this course, you will first acquire basic knowledge to understand how to access space. This will concern mission analysis, launchers, and rocket engines design. This introductory information will help you to understand what characterizes space access in the New Space in relation to three main aspects: 1. Methodologies of design, development, and production of launchers and rockets 2. Innovative technologies 3. Sustainable space with the future development of green launchers, towards a green space...

A truly excellent, informative and educational course. Enjoyed the format, instructors and all of the supporting visuals and equations to help understand the various ways to access New Space. There were some challenging parts (the mathematical equations), but the lessons made it easier to understand and calculate. This was my first Coursera course, and it was well worth the cost and will definitely be looking at other courses. Great way to learn.

I think it was quite rich for a short introductory course. Rocketry subjects are explored more deeply than other subjects like sustainability or project/technology management. It will spark curiosity to learn more.

In terms of previous skills, you definitely do not need too much - some curiosity and some really basic math skills to understand the few equations discussed in this course. Thanks to the instructors and the staff involved!

Great course! Even for a beginner, it does give you a good enough understanding of the challenges of space access, and different types of rockets and engines. It changes completely the way you can grasp the key concepts and information that is shared during a rocket launched. Professors Annafederica and Yves Gourinat are great, and true professors, authentic, passionate, and engaging. Thank you!

A very informative a d comprehensive course on technology for space and space sustainability.

I have learnt many new things about launchers, rocket engines and new technologies. I liked the mathematics bit too. This course demystifies the feared 'rocket science'. I hope advanced levels are added to this beginner level. I will gladly take that one too. Thanks to Coursera and ISAE-SUPAERO

Thank You Prof. Urbano and Prof. Gourinat. I have taken Rocket Propulsion in my degree before but they way you integrated actual Rocket related facts and information with theory gave me more understanding. Looking forward to a more advanced version of this with more detail on Feed systems and different cycles

Quite challenging but lots of technical content to understand from the theory.

Recommendable having a Physics, Thermodynamic and Mechanical background

It was intriguing to learn about rockets in a way I never thought I would learn. It was super-challenging to learn the intimate details of rocket propulsion math, but satisfying.

Can you add math exercise after each lecture (before taking quizzes) that will hone student's understanding ? Appreciate !

Its a mix of a base lvl understanding and equations for rocket engines. Prior knowledge is very helpful to understand the equations. Unfortunately the german translation is very bad, so take this course in english. Also you have to listen to every sentence since the shown equations are not always the equations you need in the test

Good course to understand the new challenges and some of basics of "the New Space". It would've been great to have more creative assignments. There were unforunately many grammar, spelling and pronunciation errors throughout the course.

Very little insights in the New Space industry. Mostly a few lessons on rocket designs with not much context. Some random talks about sustainability added on top. Bad production value.
