About the Course

This MOOC provides insight into the refugee phenomenon as one of the most complex, compelling and (arguably) misunderstood features of the 21st century. Taking a global perspective, it will outline the fundamentals of who ‘refugees’ are, where they come from and where they go, as well as delving into the features of the global system for refugee protection and ‘solutions’ for those who have been forcibly displaced. It places the student at the centre of the learning experience through engagement with a range of robust and challenging activities, materials and online peer engagement....

Overall, the course is very interesting and has a lot of reading material covering different perspectives. However, I would've preferred a course with more lectures where someone very knowledgeable in the subject can offer a more in-depth analysis of certain questions. I think the readings were the right amount and covered the needed information, but there was not much reflection coming from an expert. It is good for students to read and form their own opinion, but when learning, professors should teach students in ways that they can't do it by themselves such as by helping them see things from different perspectives, questioning their questions. This cannot be done just by students doing a reading and answering questions. I know that many people say college or courses are more like guiding students to learn by themselves. But I have to say that from my own experience I learn many more things from lectures which address questions that I might have in my head, or which touch upon points that I never would've thought of myself. So, I would add more videos with lectures!

It was too easy for me, and I think it would be for anyone who cares enough about humanitarian issues to stay up to date with the news.
