About the Course

This is the third course in the Google Cybersecurity Certificate. These courses will equip you with the skills you need to apply for an entry-level cybersecurity job. You’ll build on your understanding of the topics that were introduced in the second Google Cybersecurity Certificate course. In this course, you will explore how networks connect multiple devices and allow them to communicate. You'll start with the fundamentals of modern networking operations and protocols. For example, you'll learn about the Transmission Control Protocol / Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) model and how network hardware, like routers and modems, allow your computer to send and receive information on the internet. Then, you'll learn about network security. Organizations often store and send valuable information on their networks, so networks are common targets of cyber attacks. By the end of this course, you'll be able to recognize network-level vulnerabilities, and explain how to secure a network using firewalls, system hardening, and virtual private networks. Google employees who currently work in cybersecurity will guide you through videos, provide hands-on activities and examples that simulate common cybersecurity tasks, and help you build your skills to prepare for jobs. Learners who complete this certificate will be equipped to apply for entry-level cybersecurity roles. No previous experience is necessary. By the end of this course, you will: - Describe the structure of different computer networks. - Illustrate how data is sent and received over a network. - Recognize common network protocols. - Identify common network security measures and protocols. - Explain how to secure a network against intrusion tactics. - Compare and contrast local networks to cloud computing. - Explain the different types of system hardening techniques....

I had to do this while sick and injured...BRUTAL. But this course WILL teach you the working skills of it. Just make sure to know how to set up your computer when you go to work and you're good.

I enjoyed this course more than the others since beginning the Google Cybersecurity Certification. It covers a lot of information, but makes it very digestible to the average person.

The material is very good. I would only say that there feels like a giant gap between the quizzes vs the portfolio activities. The difference in difficulty level is palpable. The quizzes are easier to manage probably because I receive adequate exposure to the information before the quiz. The portfolio activities seem to be the opposite, where you are essentially trying to put something together that you don't have much familiarity with and you really only see what you were supposed to do or could have done after observing the exemplar. The guiding/ quiz portfolio questions/examples are helpful and the idea that our work may look different to the exemplar is understandable, but it does produce a question of, "Will the employer appreciate my portfolio, or is the exemplar better?"

Really enjoyed this lesson. Challenging but really good material. I liked the assignments, however, I would prefer assignments not to be mid-lesson. It messes with my focus. Im focused during the lesson reading, watching video, taking notes, then the assignments pops up and I have to shift my brain in a different direction, then go back to focusing on video, note taking and reading. It throws me off. I like the assignments a lot. For me, as a learner and my brain, I would prefer to do assignments at the end as opposed to in the middle of the lesson. Im sure Im the only weirdo with that brain function issue. lol Great material!

The course strikes a good balance between theoretical knowledge and practical skills needed for entry-level cybersecurity roles. The course provides a good introduction to Networking concepts, protocols, and security measures for beginners in cybersecurity. I found it helpful in understanding the fundamentals of networks and network security. The course content is well-structured, and the instructors explain complex topics using real-world examples and scenarios.

This course covered a lot of important ground with regard to cybersecurity. I think to better understand the concepts it would be more beneficial to have instruction on completing the activity reports vice just providing examples for download. I equally believe this course would be more beneficial with more interactivity exercises illustrating tools like tcpdump and wireshark and instruction in breaking down specific details of the packet analysis.

The course was great and gives a solid foundation of the network basics. I was hoping on seeing more videos and less reading materials though, as it is usually easier for me to memorize new information by visualizing it. I was also expecting more advanced networking topics (maybe some sample firewall configurations, for example), but I guess it's a good course if you are just starting out in the networking field.

As usual, the course was technical but was broken down to be simple for easy learning. I enjoyed the course and learned some great skill. I am glad that I chose the certificate program to learn about Cybersecurity. However, I think that coherence among concepts of the course could be improved

A great introduction to computer networking with an emphasis on cybersecurity along with many activities to build a portfolio. project based work is a great way to learn, and this course offers it. Just some of the networking material was dense, though approachable if you take the time.

I would have loved a bit more examples on how to conducts assessments and the tasks themselves could have more details on the attack case, because everything gets confusing and repeating too much with almost no distinction. Otherwise a great course!

Some of the activity based assignments assumed more knowledge than was provided in the course syllabus. I did not go through the additional reading material, so that could be why. But I feel a more streamlined approach to this could be taken.

It was challenging and I spent more time reviewing new concepts in order to pass the quizzes. The assignments were great learning experiences too and I can't wait to become more familiar with making reports.

This course was excellent with the given structure and presentation it only lost a star because it didn't gave any warning sign about how long or say lengthy this course will be compared to the previous two
