About the Course

In today’s world, mental illness and distress are common and these account for a significant burden of disability within our community. At the same time, there is a growing interest in understanding and enhancing positive mental health and wellbeing; particularly from developments in the fields of positive psychology and mental health promotion. Positive Psychiatry is a new term (Jeste et al 2016) that describes a dual approach to mental health, where we build strengths, supports and healthy lifestyles as well as treating illness and distress. In this course, we will explore different aspects of good mental health as well as provide an overview of the major kinds of mental disorders, their causes, treatments and how to seek help and support. The course will feature a large number of Australian experts in psychiatry, psychology and mental health research, and we will also hear from “lived experience experts”, people who have lived with mental illness, and share their personal stories of recovery. We take an evidence-based approach to a range of strategies that anyone can use to enhance their own mental health and that of others, from exercise and relaxation techniques through to the role of love, relationships and 'good' types of work. We cover topics from creativity and yoga through to psychiatric medications and psychotherapies....

There have been some mistakes in the course and the apps that they include can never be opened. Furthermore the course was more common knowledge and not as scientific. The peer assignments were not thoroughly thought through and include many mistakes and it is not that easy to deal with it. For example, when we have to look at the texts of other peers they say we have to correct 2 but actually we have to do 3 or more. I am a bit disappointed. To say something positive, the videos were quite nice and easy to follow. The pop up question otherwise were quite random.

First of all, I would like to appreciate the efforts put in by University of Sydney for conducting this course. But I personally felt that it could have been better. It felt a bit monotonous. Creative ways of teaching could have been adopted. I hope this review helps in improving the course. Thank you.

I was hoping for more details of how the brain works, what is going on while we experience mental illness or disstress. Unfortunately it was very brief overview of the subject. It kinda seemed like a self-help course foe people with mental problems. Like i said i was looking for something more indepth

Too many quizzes and the assignment is not good. Also reviewing others take time.

The information provided in the modules was just okay, but the assignment layouts didn't make any sense and there's no type of example for what they are asking for. I found the assignments to be kind of sloppy. The assignment description made it sound like they were looking for a 500-word paper... I put a lot of thought into my interpretation of the assignment but when I went to submit it I was suddenly met with a question and answer situation. It asked for creativity but there was nowhere to insert creativity. I wasn't very impressed with this course compared to other courses I've taken on this platform. I will not be spending any more time on it and wish I could get my money back.

This course is not structured well enough. The links to course readings and materials are expired. The assignments are not structured clearly, creating confusion and multiple ways to complete them. It only scratches the surface of the materials they cover, which is a shame because I felt as though I have not learned anything new and wasted my time.
