About the Course

This is the fifth course in the Google Data Analytics Certificate. In this course, you’ll explore what it means to actually analyze your data. You’ll take what you’ve learned up to this point and apply it to make sense of the data you’ve collected. You’ll learn how to organize and format your data using spreadsheets and SQL to help you look at and think about your data in different ways. You’ll also find out how to perform complex calculations with your data to address business objectives. You’ll learn how to use formulas, functions, and SQL queries as you conduct your analysis. Current Google data analysts will continue to instruct and provide you with hands-on ways to accomplish common data analyst tasks with the best tools and resources. Learners who complete this certificate program will be equipped to apply for introductory-level jobs as data analysts. No previous experience is necessary. By the end of this course, learners will: - Learn how to organize data for analysis. - Understand the processes for formatting and adjusting data. - Explore how to aggregate data in spreadsheets and by using SQL. - Use formulas and functions in spreadsheets to make data calculations. - Learn how to complete calculations using SQL queries....

Very good and useful practice of SQL. The JOIN party is pretty hardcore so I definitely couldn't master it but got enough of an understanding where I could learn quickly with some on the job training.

An excellent course for learning analysis techniques using Spreadsheets and SQL. Recommended for all engineering and data science students as well as for those managing businesses and human resource.

Accommodations for Excel users not always available. More practice opportunities would be helpful. Good information but very generalized.

I found this course the most difficult. Especially for dealing with numbers.

This course was not as helpful as previous courses. Many of the video lessons seemed rushed which resulted in frustration and lack of learning. There were far too many instances of skipping over critical information and/or steps that were detrimental to the process. Often key pieces of information were not stated verbally nor shown on the video, but rather assumed. This made it very difficult to follow along and to carry out some of the "follow-along" type activities. This course also had far more inserted corrections and could have used many more. I would give it 3 stars except this course contained some of the most challenging and needed content and it did NOT deliver. I will definitely need to find another course and use other tools to teach myself this content. I guess the positive side is that this course forced me to engage in problem-solving through a variety of resources I had not previously accessed, and I will definitely need to do more of it around this course's critical content. However, that doesn't make up for the time and energy that was wasted on this course, nor for the associated frustration.

Module 5 was a lot of more complex than the other modules I have learned so far, I felt the instructor rushed through a lot of these complex topics and became really frustrated with BIG QUERY for some of the queries when copying exactly as written would not give results to due syntax errors and using PIVOT tables and learning them for the first time in EXCEL and trying to figure out how to do what the instructor did in GOOGLE sheets was not a good way to learn, i spent a tremendous amount of time trying to duplicate what the instructor did in GOOGLE SHEET. Used many outside resources and was still not able to get the concepts down clearly. I think for more complex areas of study, like calculated fields in PIVOT Tables GOOGLE or COURSERA should give students the option to watch video in EXCEL as well not just GOOGLE sheets.

The introduction to SQL queries lacked introduction and instruction. It wasn't until the end of the course (Week 4) that they provided a PDF summary of all the SQL functions taught along with descriptions and explanations. It would have been very helpful to have this at the beginning of the course rather than at the end. It was obvious that there were multiple contributing instructors for this course as it appeared more incohesive compared to previous courses. While I understand they could not have possibly taught all of SQL here, I felt that they provided too many outside links for us to refer to and read independently. which I thought was a little lazy. If a course was constructed well, you would not have to link your students to other resources because yours would be good enough, if not better.

The course is very general, doesn't do a good job in explaining the important information in details. Also, the course lacks of clear structures, it jumps among different functions, SQL & spreadsheets very randomly, the knowledge is not built up which you can see a clear progression path. Also, lots of ads about google products are involved in this course, for people who need to use excel or other sql platforms, the course is not practical. The questions in the exams in general are too easy comparing to the course content, the course content tend to bring up a relatively complicated subject while doing a bad job at explaining it. I guess that's why you design the easy exams so that students can still pass after watching the very confusing course videos.

Unfortunately this course did not deliver upon promise "Analyze Data to Answer Questions". Mostly data processing and cleaning techniques were reiterated. The author's of the whole certificate program do not have a clear audience in mind. They needed to ask themselves in the beginning - what is the audience for this course? How much Excel do these people know? How much SQL? Etc. It is crazy to teach SQL subqueries, temporary tables, joins etc to the same people to whom you are telling that Excel functions start with =. I think it would be better to assume that people should have some basic Excel understanding as prerequiite for this course and stop explaining what an Excel range is or how =SUM function works.

What is going on here Google, huh? First 4 courses of specialization were amazing honestly. This one, barely 2 stars. Content is vague, important things are not explained, lack of practical work, in one video you need to turn up sound to hear instructor, in another she is yelling. In week 2 and 3 you just observe instructor typing complex querries with little to no explanation and in week 4 she explains them like we have never seen them!? Im confused really, like nobody from Google reviewed video selection before publishing course. And instructor itself, no personality, nothing, just pure reading and yelling to the camera, I'm really dissapointed. Hope the next course and rest of them will be better :/

The tutror taught some topic very fastt such as join query and subquery. Also pivot table and temporary table. I think you should try to elobarate more on this topics as trhey are very imperative to learn for any data analyst. It's better to add more week on that topic to teach instead of other topics. The Tutor accent was too fast to understand and the length of the video is higher than previous videos so these were also led to dissatisfaction. However, I completed my course anyway although I have no answer that whether I learned it properly or not. Just opinion and experience.

This is my second Grow with Google Course (I also did the PM certification) and this is the first one where I've left a review suggesting parts of it should be redone. First, there are MANY issues with BigQuery and following along with the instructor. Be prepared to spend alot of time on Stackoverflow (searching for missing steps the instructor left out) and w3schools.com. I was surprised how many times important steps were left out of the BigQuery lessons. Many times I thought "did no one a google watch this and follow along before they published it?"

the instructor goes to fast and treats the students as if we know everything she is talking about. It is too fast paced and advanced compared to what we have been taught in the other courses thats why it kind of feels wrong when she writes these long queries and we basically dont have a clue what she is trying to find. Compared to the last instructor that explained each part of the query this one is really difficult to follow and understand and you just find yourself writinq a query you dont even know how to replicate in another dataset.

The drop in producation quality compared to the previous course (Process Data from Dirty to Clean) was noticable and irritating. Nothing major but many small things such as inconsistent audo-levels between videos, numerous instances of errata added postproduction and the pacing of instructor-led "follow-along" activites was noticably inconsistent (ranging between low pace to just skimming through details in rapid fire).

Subject matter aside, the overall experience I had this with this course in particular was not at all pleasant.

This was by far the worst section so far. The instructor is great and knowledgeable but the constant shifting from excel to sql within the same video. Using advanced sql functions without any real explanation is difficult. At the end of the section, at one point, the instructor is copying and pasting code into bigquery and I'm just sitting there lost. Yes, you will have to use external resources but that doesn't it's okay to not explain what and why those lines of code are being used.

Lacking in actual instruction. Most learning is done on your own with third party learning resources. The 'teacher' walked you through the actions with little to zero explanation or why's or how's. There seemed to be parts of the course that where not chronologically accurate or repeated information from earlier in the course. Of the 5 courses I've done for this certificate, this is the only one that I felt was lazy on the part of the instructors and not very informative.

Overall, the program gets 4.5-5 starts, but this was by far my least favorite course in the program. The reason for this is that the instructor was terrible and should be replaced asap in an updated version of the course. The instructor does a mediocre job explaining some of the more advanced SQL queries. She rushes through the material and makes numerous errors throughout the process. Aside from this instructor and course, I have mostly enjoyed the rest to the program.

Comparing to previous courses in specialization this one seems to be rushed . Videos are quite useles, the instructor talks very fast and does not explain the steps and the logic behind it. There are lack of practice (practice on SQL seems to be copy and paste the queries). Also the audio is very low making it even harder to follow the instructor. I had to take a seperate course on SQL to be able to continue with specialization.
