About the Course

The COVID-19 crisis has created an unprecedented need for contact tracing across the country, requiring thousands of people to learn key skills quickly. The job qualifications for contact tracing positions differ throughout the country and the world, with some new positions open to individuals with a high school diploma or equivalent. In this introductory course, students will learn about the science of SARS-CoV-2 , including the infectious period, the clinical presentation of COVID-19, and the evidence for how SARS-CoV-2 is transmitted from person-to-person and why contact tracing can be such an effective public health intervention. Students will learn about how contact tracing is done, including how to build rapport with cases, identify their contacts, and support both cases and their contacts to stop transmission in their communities. The course will also cover several important ethical considerations around contact tracing, isolation, and quarantine. Finally, the course will identify some of the most common barriers to contact tracing efforts -- along with strategies to overcome them....

Easy to follow and understand. The instructor was very clear and knowledgeable of the subject matter. The vignettes were excellent demonstrations of best practices. I am so happy to be a part of this.

I want to thank everyone involved who put this course into motion. I has truly been informative and I plan to put those practices in place. I believe my background in criminal Justice (worked closed 30 yrs in probation before retiring) make me quite familiar with dealing with the full range of society and dealing in confidential matters.

As a public school teacher for more than 20 years, I planned a lot of class courses and content, lessons and assessments. I'd have been very pleased to have produced a course with the qualities I have seen in this course! Highly informative, easy to understand, and a great introduction to the concept of contact tracing. Thanks very much!

The teaching methodology was extremely effective. Modules were appropriately designed in terms of length, amount of material and clarity. The use of the videos, questionnaires conveyed the science and the social aspects of how we need to respond to public health crises without fear, with compassion and with strong methodical measures.

The course outline and content were congruent. The material was presented in a close enough fashion for me to grasp all the concepts. As a Nurse, I have worked in Corrections, Private Practice and Geriatrics, never with Public Health/Epidemiology. I feel confident in accepting a position as Contact Tracer, having completed the course.

Thank you for this comprehensive, easy to follow and thought-provoking course to learn how to be a contact tracer for the COVID-19 pandemic. Although there are local requirements and programs/software/apps for training, this course is an excellent foundation to have for any contact tracing assignment, be it volunteer or paid. Thank you.

This is an extremely good course to introduce you to the field of becoming a contract tracer. However, unlike what I have expected, the course did not cover any details of the mechanics behind the technology used for contract tracing. It's based on the user end interferences. Overall the course is easy to understand and well organised.

The course was comprehensive, and interesting. It dealt with very specific, medical details of the virus, as well as some social and emotional issues. It has made me feel better prepared to understand the pandemic, and how contract tracing can be used to help solve problems both on an individual level, as well for society as a whole.

I think this was a well designed and presented course. I think the assessments were also well done. one thing I would say is that several statements were presented as facts which I think are still being researched for more insight or documented proof. I think if something is not absolutely true, it needs to be stated indicating that.

I found the class to be very informative. Several of the introductory topics were items I knew from the amount of attention this virus has received in the media. Other topics were similar to ones I had encountered in my former profession (COVID-19 related job loss). Overall, this class was definitely something I am glad I completed.

easy to navigate and can always go back to the topic where I left off; what impressed me the most is the feature that I am able to highlight the note and I can always make notations on the highlighted phrases or sentences and I can always review it whenever I want. the speaker also is very good and made the topics easy to understand.

Very nice, concise course structure and presentation. The pace was excellent and the information was cogent and not overwhelming. The one suggestion I would make would be to consider different contact tracing actors in the videos. They were less than convincing and did not enhance my learning of the skill that they were demonstrating.

Wonderful course! Well organized and clearly explained. Thank you!!

Question 16 on the assessment, about releasing a patient from isolation, does not reflect current CDC standards of 10 days isolation and 24 hrs. without fever/improving symptoms. I believe the answer the answer sheet wanted was still going by the 72 hrs. well protocol.

Professor was very informative in teaching this course. I enjoyed it very much. I learned a lot about contact tracing. I am more informed about Covid 19 that I now could actually have an informative dialogue with someone who might need clarification on infectious time, isolation time and quarantine time. I just had fun. Thanks. Mario

The was very interesting. I learned a lot and wish that more people would take it because the information is really empowering and gives one a greater sense of control over COVID-19 by understanding what it is exactly, how it spreads, and how to prevent the spread. The active listening and communication components were an added bonus.

I'm happy to have the opportunity to be involved with this fantastic knowledge; this is a very new and actual need for information and mainly because this contains much more than the COVID - 19 disease and SARS Coronavirus Two. And all the other topics are handy in all the areas that I wanted to put into practice. Thank you very much,

I found this course highly effective and informative for my needs as a school nurse with significant responsibilities as reopening is being planned. It has not been clear what our roles will be with respect to contact tracing but this course will make me better informed and able to interface with contact tracers should the need arise.
