Week 6 not so understandable

I'm slightly disappointed with this course. it wasn't up to the standard of the past 2 courses.

It's an extremely dense and information-packed course, there is literally a new excel tool for you to learn, understand and master every 5-10 minutes throughout the course. but the breakneck speed of the course makes it next to impossible to keep up, on many instances, the tools were not explained well enough and left me absolutely dumbfounded as to how a result was achieved. I actually had to resort to some youtube videos to get a better explanation of some of the more complex topics.

the weekly challenges were very challenging and extremely satisfying to get right. the biggest problem were some of the assessment tests which were weirdly phrased and not at all straightforward to understand, especially the final assessment which is an absolute behemoth of an Exam, after completing it I'm absolutely sure that I could never fear an exam on Excel ever again.

overall, it's worth it if you are in a career that demands absolute mastery of Excel (as in, >60% of your time is spent on excel) or you're interested in doing financial modeling or CRM as a full-time job. otherwise, if you're just trying to be better in your everyday basic usage of excel, then it might not be worth it for you. i believe everything you neeed would be found in Intermediate 1 of this specilization

Very well put together, until the last week's introduction to Macros and VBA. The last week's section should have been presented in two or three weeks (probably under the Advanced section). Concepts needed in the Week 6 Practice Challenge either were not introduced or not explained fully.

Course is great and very useful but week 5 and 6 are not suitable for MAC users since instructors do not specify the differences between MAC and windows, so it is very hard to follow up.

The course started out well enough, but as it progressed the quality of the practice challenges deteriorated. The teaching overall and one's ability to follow along is good enough. However, so many assumptions are made on the practice challenges, and the application of what's been learned so difficult in many places and only vaguely related to the way it was presented in the learning videos (making it difficult to apply), and the unavailability of a teacher in real time to ask for clarification combined to be a deal-breaker. I expect an online learning course to be VERY clear with its instructions and to lay out scenarios clearly. Having taught in a variety of capacities over a 30 year period, both ad-hoc and codified classroom courses, I know very well how important it is to make sure one's students are clear on what they are doing, and why. This course, from about Week 4 onwards, fails at that quite spectacularly. Visual learners, such as myself, are not well-catered for, the material hasn't been updated since 2017, teachers are only sporadically available and then usually only after days of waiting, leaving students to either just forgo the practice challenges or bash their heads against them for days on end. I'm not alone in this, having seen many, many forum comments from other students bemoaning the lack of clarity with instructions / scenarios and having no teachers available to help (either at all, or only after a long wait). Macquarie should know that as a student's frustration level rises, their learning ability drops exponentially. If it were possible, I would seek a refund of my course fee for this course. While I finally made it through the course in the end - although by the end it was VERY difficult to force myself to keep plugging away due to the poor instructions as previously mentioned - I feel like what I've learned has been minimal, and the certificate I've received is barely "worth the paper its printed on". The degree of frustration I experienced on this course I feel sure has rendered a huge portion of my learning moot and mute, as the frustrations I experienced were so strong and pervasive that I can all but feel the stored learned data has fallen out and dissipated. I won't be using Macquarie again.

The delivery is highly professional. The course started off well with the first two modules being easy to follow. However, the quality seemed to decline thereafter due to several reasons: Lack of thorough explanations: While it is shown how to use a certain tool, the course often fails to provide the rationale behind that (why it is used). Unnecessary complexity: The assignments and assessments are occasionally overly complex, requiring additional research. Disconnect between lectures and assignments: The assignments and assessments often seemed unrelated (to some extent) to the lectures. Course structure: The course provides a “Toolbox” with terms and tips at the end of each week. However, it would have been more beneficial if this was introduced at the beginning of each week. This way the leaner may understand the new concepts better; that would also help to complete the assignments. The course does not have any prerequisites. However, I believe that someone new to Excel would struggle beyond Module 3. Even with my decent level of Excel skills, I found the course challenging, especially after Intermediate I. On top of that you would need some understanding of financial analysis when in Advanced module. Therefore, I would not recommend this course to those without some Excel skills or accounting background. There are plenty of online resources for understanding Excel, such as exceljet.net, trumpexcel.com, and Microsoft Support. Overall, the course left me feeling unsatisfied. I felt that I should have opted for a different course, but since I was already halfway through, I decided to finish it. If you do not need a certificate, I would suggest looking for alternatives. However, if you are already skilled and just seeking a recognition, this course might be suitable for you.

Week 5 was particularly difficult. Maybe teach it differently.

I contacted the teaching staff through e-mail, and there was no response.

I found myself doing more googling through these lessons than the others that I have taken so far.

Multiple questions are asking something that was never mentioned in the videos.

The videos focused on easy problems, which didn't help when it comes to the weekly assessments. I struggled with them and .I didn't find the discussion forum useful. I really need an in-person class so I can have a verbal dialog and am able to check for understanding..

I only have one complaint and it's in regards to the videos that Yvonne Breyer conducted. Her videos are very different that the one's that Nicky and Prashan do. She doesn't explain topics as thoroughly, she doesn't go slow enough and most times feels rushed, and when it comes to her showing a task she is performing she doesn't zoom back out on the screen to show what tab or function within the tab she is selecting. She may mention it but it's much easier to follow when Nicky and Prashan zoom in and out as appropriate. I really think her vidoes need to be reviewed and redone. It makes learning the material that she teaches much more difficult than it should be. If someone could please evaluate the content that Yvonne has done and compare it to Nicky and Prashan and have Yvonne's videos be redone to be more similar to Nicky and Prashans.

Absolutely, I can't emphasize enough how crucial Excel is for one's career. This course is truly outstanding and stands as the best option on the internet. I strongly recommend enrolling in the full specialization rather than individual courses, as it surpasses any other available options. What's even better is that you can access it through Financial Aid. Coursera is an incredibly generous platform, especially for individuals like me who may not afford hefty monthly subscription fees. However, I must highlight the 'Excel Skills for Business Specialization,' which is taught by the amazing instructors Ma'am Nicky Bull and Sir Dr. Prashan S. M. Karunaratne. Their teaching style is not only informative but also engaging and enjoyable, making learning a daily delight.

I recently completed the Excel Skills for Business Intermediate Part Two course on Coursera and it was a fantastic learning experience. The course covered advanced level Excel techniques and features that are essential for business professionals. The instructor was knowledgeable and made the concepts easy to understand, even for those who are new to Excel. The assignments were well designed and helped reinforce the concepts learned in the course. I appreciated the hands-on approach of the course and found it to be a valuable addition to the Excel Skills for Business Intermediate Part One course. I would highly recommend this course to anyone looking to take their Excel skills to the next level and become a power user. I would rate this course a 5 out of 5.

Very good, I learned a lot: This is a challenging course. Note, for me, the course required more study time and more time to complete than was indicated when I signed up for the course. Also note, I needed some supplemental videos (recommended on the discussion forum by fellow students) that are available on youtube. Some of the Practice Challenges Solutions files didn't contain enough guidance to figure out what I was doing incorrectly. I recommend to Macquarie to add an additional level of "Practice Challenges" that have a video step-by-step solution provided - this would really enhance the learning experience. First of all I thank Allah who allowed me to take and understand that course. Secondly, I totally appreciate the hard working of every person who took part in creating and delivering it. I truly hope Allah guide you all to what's best for you. What I find most beautiful about this course is: 1. It focuses on the most helpful/common tools in Excel. 2. All the materials be it excercises, videos, challenges or assignments, it is all from the real world in such a proffesionally designed spreadsheets. I learned a lot, and thanks to Allah now I have confidence in dealing with Excel. Thank you Coursera for such great course and the financial aid.

I already knew concepts like Logical functions, data validation, protecting sheets,Error check & Lookup lists, and functions up to intermediate level. But this course has thought me in-depth about these concepts, how, where, and when to apply these concepts in datasets. It also introduced me to new concepts like Recording Macros and Data Modelling. I'm completely happy with the course lecture video contents, quizzes, assignments & practice exercises, practice exercises, and assignments helped me to put my understanding into practice and also to evaluate my understanding.

Since the very beginning I started this course specialization and up until now I am so glad that I did. The courses build on each other, enabling you to learn core skills in Excel. This course has enabled me to build on my Excel skillset and I feel more confident in myself and my ability to tackle related challenges.

The course is well structured, the instructors know their craft and their method of delivery is great. I am also grateful for the Discussion forums because learners all over the world provide useful tips or assistance if you get stuck in a certain problem.

Really enjoyed taking this course. I know it's a business course and should be dull, however I found it to be fascinating and I was amazed at what the Excel program can do. One major flaw is that the controls for MAC are different that PC, sometimes significantly so. And Excel does not offer some functions on MAC that are crucial to the lessons. It would be nice to be shown a work around, or at least an acknowledgment that it is unavailable for MAC users so we don't have to run around the internet for hours trying to figure out what is wrong with our computer.

I have completed the “Excel Skill for Business” specialization by Macquarie University after 90+ hours of resilient learning and growth. After completing this specialization, I can confidently say that I have gained deep insights into one of the most powerful spreadsheets and analytics tools i.e. Microsoft excel. The Specialization entails of four courses which covers all the concepts of Excel (Basics to Advanced). I would like to thank Nicky Bull, Prashan Karunaratne and coursera for providing me such a wholesome experience.

Just like the first two courses in this specialization, videos were well sequenced and organized. It took me a couple of attempts to get fully comfortable with few concepts but it was well worth the time. I now have the confidence to drive efficiencies in the way we work at office. VBA/Macros will take some more time for me but overall, it was a great experience. Looking forward to the Advanced course and completing my specialization. Thank you so much to the staff who put together such a wonderful course.
