About the Course

It used to be the case that everyone viewed web pages on about the same size screen - a desktop computer. But now it is just as likely that someone will be using a smart phone, tablet, or assistive technology to access the Internet. Therefore, people viewing your site will now expect that it will perform regardless of the device (smartphone, tablet, laptop, desktop computer, or screen reader) AND take into account some common personal settings such as color schemes. This ability to respond to any platform and user preferences is called Responsive Design. This course will expand upon the basic knowledge of CSS3 to include topics such as wireframes, fluid design, media queries, and the use of existing styling paradigms. After the course, learners will be able to: ** Explain the mobile-first paradigm and the importance of wireframes in the design phase ** Create sites that behave across a range of platforms ** Recognize existing design frameworks such as Bootstrap A basic understanding of HTML and CSS is expected when you enroll in this class, so it can be taken third or fourth in the Web Design for Everybody specialization. Additional courses focus on adding interactivity with the JavaScript Programming Language and completing a capstone project....

I enjoyed the course very much. Learn a lot of things. And find that in web designing good practices are more important. I have to read articles, blog to update my knowledge and to learn new things.

A very clear and engaging introduction to responsive design. Lots of advice on best practice. Despite the course referring to older versions of Bootstrap framework, still a useful course.

Starts out great, but the entire section on Bootstrap is essentially useless as it's all outdated.

Bootstrap 3 is outdated and these lectures aren't as effective as in the three previous courses.

The outdated bootstrap info makes this harder to learn from. I'm afraid it needs an update

Please fix the grading for the final project. There are discrepancies. 5 points for replacing images but no alt text. 3 points for replacing all image and including alt text. The images provided by Colleen have been replaced with new images (with alt text) O points The images were not replaced. 5 points The images were replaced, but did not include short, descriptive alt text. 5 points Some but not all of the images were replaced (there should be at least nine images). 3 points All of the images were replaced and included short, descriptive alt text The mobile view (before any media query) uses valid CSS for a single column grid O points The mobile view does not use valid CSS for a one column grid. 2.5 points The mobile view does use a one column grid, but the figures don't fill in the space correctly. 5 points The mobile view does not use valid CSS for a one column grid. The 0 and 5 pt are the same.

Mediocre course, I didn't get much from this course. Most of the time, it shows instructor talking and talking, not enough learning materials.

I don't think this is a good way to get us into responsive web development. I've discovered this course on Udemy and it has been good so far https://www.udemy.com/css3-responsive-web-design-tutorial-with-flexbox-and-animations/. I would recommend it instead of this course. (It's not free though but you can get 100% discount code online).

Poor Bootstrap course. I had to go to free tutorials on youtube to get some good explanations and examples. The only course from this package that was worth it was CSS3. My next step is to learn Back-End Development but I don't think I will go for the University of Michigan again.

This is not a bad course, but it is an old course -- from 2016. CSS has changed a lot -- with display: grid and flex. Bootstrap has changed a lot -- some of the things taught about it don't work anymore. The discussion forums are abandoned and therefore, useless.

Not as good as other previous courses in the series. In this course the learning curve was flat relatively.
