About the Course

This is the fifth course in the Google Data Analytics Certificate. In this course, you’ll explore what it means to actually analyze your data. You’ll take what you’ve learned up to this point and apply it to make sense of the data you’ve collected. You’ll learn how to organize and format your data using spreadsheets and SQL to help you look at and think about your data in different ways. You’ll also find out how to perform complex calculations with your data to address business objectives. You’ll learn how to use formulas, functions, and SQL queries as you conduct your analysis. Current Google data analysts will continue to instruct and provide you with hands-on ways to accomplish common data analyst tasks with the best tools and resources. Learners who complete this certificate program will be equipped to apply for introductory-level jobs as data analysts. No previous experience is necessary. By the end of this course, learners will: - Learn how to organize data for analysis. - Understand the processes for formatting and adjusting data. - Explore how to aggregate data in spreadsheets and by using SQL. - Use formulas and functions in spreadsheets to make data calculations. - Learn how to complete calculations using SQL queries....

Very good and useful practice of SQL. The JOIN party is pretty hardcore so I definitely couldn't master it but got enough of an understanding where I could learn quickly with some on the job training.

An excellent course for learning analysis techniques using Spreadsheets and SQL. Recommended for all engineering and data science students as well as for those managing businesses and human resource.

Some are very repetitive and I got really bored. I have a background in Computer science so much of this knowledge overlaps but I still found myself getting off track even though I love SQL. I wish there were more "challenging" interactive questions like some other practice websites in order to really understand the concepts instead of multiple choice. I know its a beginner course, but if I was a beginner I think I would benefit from trying to solve harder queries and data validation/conditioning exercises.

Of the 5 certificates from this series I've completed so far, I found this one to be the most difficult to follow and least information-rich. I think those two observations might be related.

To be clear, I did not find the concepts difficult, and when I engaged outside resources to fortify my learning I got through the tests just fine. What was different from the previous 4 certificates in the series was how much information I had to go and find on my own vs. what was clearly presented.

Based on comparison to the four completed, I would rate this the lowest and least effective. Pace at times was much too fast and the instructor even stated that some of the content is advanced...? Not sure why that content was included, but recommend editing the content and pace. On the other hand, if the quick pace was needed to cover all of the material, then recommend, editing early courses to remove some of the redundant material to "buy" time for this course.

I think this is a good course but I feel this course is set for people that have previous knowledge with spreadsheets and SQL already because there is not enough repetition on the material to be able to remember all the functions that can be done within spreadsheets and SQL. There is suppose to be a way to go back and redo any courses or materials that you previously learned, yet I have not found a way to go back to any courses or material that I have already completed.

This course was so effective with a huge amount of data and new knowledge. Thank yo so much to give me this opportunity to learn them. However, I would like to inform you that some parts like "subqueries" and "join" which are really complicated did not have sufficient explanation and I was confused. Thus I try to use other source to understand these concept. I would like to suggest to focus on this course and add more lesson and practice. Thank you so much again

The overall content of the course is good. However, the structure of the course isn't as good, in many places there were repeated topics and topics that should have been explained earlier in the course. In addition in a few instances in the videos, the SQL code wasn't correct. After repeatedly checking the code, I find the correct code in the other forums. This section is by far the was the only course in the series where I rated the course so low.

This is more a criticism of the guided quizzes where you practice, text was difficult to read and distracting because too much was going on. The instructor in the videos was great. I didn't enjoy downloading and then uploading data from coursera onto my laptop then uploading again onto BigQuery. After two times it was tedious. One of the practice SQL code actually did not work in BigQuery despite a literal copy/pate which was frustrating.

The course covered most of the aspects related to analyzing data. But the course could have been better if it focused more upon elaborating the postioning and usage of different functions, it felt like the course left out the "WHY" part of SQL functions and commands which will eventually confuse beginners a lot. Videos lacked the elaborative part in the course which will slow down the learning process for a beginner.

This course has provided many good information. However, those good information are surface information.

Instead of repetiting same information in many chapters, i think it is best teching deeper into analyzing data with trends, critical think with data, and predict trends. Most analyzing features or approachs in here are basic and does not give newbie any outlier from other newbie who does not take this course.

This part of the course focused on items previously discussed unnecessarily such as formulas and functions of Excel and sometimes took really fast pace when new things were being discussed like subqueries in SQL. Should be adjusted.

Furthermore, any content or part for easier transition to Kaggle should be made. Right now whenever I enter Kaggle, I feel overwhelmed and too novice to enter anything.

Although I

enjoyed the class, the instructor was not thorough when it came to SQL. If This course is truly for beginners, then more time should be spent Detailing What all she is doing.

Some of the statements Used in the queries had not ever been introduced during the course so it was confusing. Her spreadsheet Teachings were

awesome, but the SQL teachings, not so much.

Overall not a bad course.

SQL practise is far too oriented towards technical details and complicated data sets instead of putting practise first. The steps are given up front, often the query came back with a strange error even though I followed every single step The advanced part of sql went by particularly quickly and I personally found it difficult to understand joins and temporary tables. The videos are old fashioned

While I am learning a lot, it has becoming increasely more difficult to participate and learn effectively because everything related to spreadsheets in Google Sheets, I get it...It's a Google Certification. However, everyone and every organization doesn't use Sheets. Also some of the issues wit BigQuery is getting annoying and again difficult to participate when you can't find a dataset.

I think that in this course about analyzing data they will should add some statistic methods about analyzing. If you go for a job for analysts you must know statistics not only sum and average. They tell you that you learn how to indentify patterns but it is a lie. These simple things that we taught isnt about finding interesting things in data it is only descriptive statistics for kids

While I liked the depth of the material better than some of the other modules, I didn't feel like I had enough opportunity to practice skills and I ended up depending heavily on outside reading. The week 4 module should have been broken into two modules, in my opinion, one for Excel/Sheets and one for SQL as there was too much material and not enough testing of proficiency.

I didn't feel the information was presented in a way I could easily follow like the previous videos. I would have to take extra time trying to figure out what I had missed only to see something had happened in a query that wasn't verbalized. It took me about twice as long to move through level 5. Maybe it was just more difficult content. I definitely struggled more here.

This course was not paced well. There was way too much information packed into week 4, which took me three+ weeks to complete. I wish the information was parsed out a little more. For most learners, these are the tech skills that they were looking to get, but it was hard to grasp and absorb the information. I got through it, but I'm not sure how much I will retain.

As others are pointing out, this course felt rushed. As the title of this cetfication is 'Data Analysis" you would expect the "analysis" part of this cert to be the biggest and most valuable resource, but it was not the case. I would have to refer other sources to learn SQL as a lot of the syntaxes of this languages were just explained in like 2 seconds.

I like that complex functions for SQL are introduced. I struggled with the instructor's pace even with pausing, and reducing the speed she still didn't explain in detail the syntax of functions. I also didn't like bringing back old SQL functions. I expected more difficult hands on practice only to get multiple choice questions for the challenges.

This course needs improvement as it doesn't go smoothly with courses given before. As a learner i was getting a problem on my week 2 and 3 studies because it suddenly goes from nowhere to an advanced level. So coursera can improve it by breaking down and giving sufficient time to make learners understand concepts well and build up a new skill.

I think that you may need to review some of the course content. For instance, in the practice "Hands-On Activity: Create temporary tables" the code refers to the variable 'bikeid' but the table reference is for 'bike_id'.

It's a small thing but it makes a difference when you're just trying to learn and don't want to be debugging course content.

There are a lot of instances where you are supposed to follow along on BigQuery. In my experience, nine out of ten of these scenarios end in technical errors. Whether these can be troubleshot endlessly for a result is beyond me but as of now, I feel very unsure of my knowledge of SQL based on these instances and will research more on my own.

Course 5 needs to reviewed since it's very dense with lots great tips and tricks but only offering too few examples. Also, there have been changes to the datasets in Big Query. BikeID is now Bike_ID. It would be helpful if someone could go through coursework to make sure it's updated. The program is promoted for 'new to the field'.

Finally a course that has a fair amount of handson activities though at a very basic level, these courses are mainly geared towards novices. The only advantage, to anyone already familiar with databases, is the introduction of structured methods/processes in datanalysis projects as well as exposure to language used in the sapce.

One of the sql queries don't seem to work in the bigquery sandbox, no matter what I do differerently. I first followed the instructions step by step, then copy pasted what the instructions were telling me to do... I just can't tell what I was doing wrong, or if I was doing anything wrong and it's flawed, so that was frustrating.
