About the Course

Design a User Experience for Social Good and Prepare for Jobs is the seventh and final course in a program that will equip you with the skills you need to become an entry-level UX designer. In this course, you will design a dedicated mobile app and a responsive website focused on social good. You will showcase all that you’ve learned during the certificate program to complete the design process from beginning to end: empathizing with users, defining their pain points, coming up with ideas for design solutions, creating wireframes and prototypes, and testing designs to get feedback. By the end of this course, you will have a new cross-platform design project to include in your professional UX portfolio. This course will also prepare you to land your first job as a UX designer. You’ll learn how to interview for entry-level UX design positions. You’ll get tips from Googlers based on their own interview experiences and their unique perspectives as hiring managers. And, you’ll polish the professional UX portfolio you’ve been building throughout the program so that it’s ready for job applications. Current UX designers and researchers at Google will serve as your instructors, and you will complete hands-on activities that simulate real-world UX design scenarios. Learners who complete the seven courses in this certificate program should be equipped to apply for entry-level jobs as UX designers. By the end of this course, you will be able to: - Apply each step of the UX design process (empathize, define, ideate, prototype, test) to create designs focused on social good. - Identify the differences between dedicated mobile apps and responsive web apps. - Understand progressive enhancement and graceful degradation approaches for designing across devices. - Build wireframes, mockups, and low-fidelity and high-fidelity prototypes. - Add a new design project to your professional UX portfolio. - Create your portfolio of design work for job applications. - Join and participate in online UX communities. - Interview for an entry-level UX design job. - Determine if freelance design work is a good career fit for you. - Learn AI skills from Google experts to help complete UX design tasks. This course is suitable for beginner-level UX designers who have completed the previous six courses of the Google UX Design Certificate....

I'm wondering if the designing a portfolio should have been next after making the final case study. It also would be awesome if there was a mini guide for Webflow when interacting the links and trying to send a portfolio for beginners who are just getting into the design world. Overall, this has been a really interesting journey.

This course is a combination of what you have learned from the previous courses in the certificate program. It's very practical and you can add one more project to your portfolio as well. Regarding resources for job application, some parts might not apply to you due to differences in job markets of countries outside the USA.

really good course. although its even more benefitical for those you have some sort of design mackground. the peer assessments are good but would love if there was a professional assessment also from someone working in the field but I could imagine that would make the course cost more money.

You're not going to be able to get a job right out of the program, it's not as good as a college education, but it's great, affordable, and a wonderful start. I would absolutely take it again.

The only reason it is not 5 stars is that I believe more mentorship opportunities or small accountability groups would have been very helpful.

The job preparation parts are pertinent and relevent but the last project design just reiterates earlier courses. It would have been more useful to give a wider scope to the final challenge to encourage exploration of ideas.

Designing a User Experience (UX) for social good entails creating digital solutions that address pressing social issues and contribute to positive change in society. Whether it's designing an app to promote environmental sustainability, developing a platform to support mental health awareness, or creating a website for a nonprofit organization, UX designers have the opportunity to leverage their skills for social impact. To design a UX for social good, it's essential to start by understanding the target audience and their needs. Conducting thorough user research, including interviews, surveys, and usability testing, helps gain insights into the challenges faced by the community or group you aim to serve. Empathy is key in this process, as it enables designers to truly understand the perspectives and experiences of the users they are designing for. Once you have a clear understanding of the user's needs and pain points, you can begin ideating and prototyping solutions. Collaborating with stakeholders, including community members, nonprofits, and social enterprises, ensures that the design solutions are relevant, feasible, and impactful. Iterative design processes, such as design thinking and agile methodologies, allow for continuous feedback and refinement to create user-centered solutions. In addition to designing the UX for social good, it's crucial to prepare for jobs in the UX design field. This includes building a strong portfolio that showcases your skills, experience, and passion for social impact projects. Highlighting your work on projects that contribute to social good can differentiate you as a candidate and demonstrate your commitment to using design for positive change. Networking with professionals in the industry, joining relevant organizations or communities, and attending events and conferences can also help expand your network and uncover job opportunities in the social impact space. Furthermore, staying updated on industry trends, honing your technical skills, and seeking out mentorship and learning opportunities can further enhance your prospects in the job market. Overall, designing a UX for social good is a rewarding endeavor that allows UX designers to make a meaningful impact on society. By combining design expertise with a passion for social change and actively preparing for job opportunities, designers can pave the way for a fulfilling career in the field of UX design for social good.
