International Political, Legal, and Economic Environments
Module 4•2 hours to complete
Module details
This module explores the diverse environments in which international businesses operate. We begin by examining the foundations of international political and legal systems, providing a critical understanding of how these frameworks shape global business activities. International managers must grasp the complexities of these systems and appreciate their far-reaching implications for conducting business across borders. We then delves into the complex areas of international business ethics, corporate social responsibility (CSR), and corruption. These subjects are particularly challenging because there are no universally accepted standards for determining what is ethical, responsible, or corrupt in a global context. Despite this ambiguity, international managers are often required to make difficult ethical and moral decisions. It is essential for managers to thoroughly understand these issues and recognize their profound impact on international operations.

International Trade Law
Module 5•2 hours to complete
Module details
In this module, we explore the various ways nations establish trade barriers to protect their domestic industries and jobs. Ironically, we also examine the many foreign trade agreements and international organizations designed to reduce or eliminate these same barriers. We review key national trade laws, including import and export restrictions imposed by individual countries. Next, we discuss Free Trade Zones, which countries use to lower trade barriers and encourage cross-border commerce. Finally, we focus on national intellectual property laws—such as patents, copyrights, and trademarks—which have become critically important as international trade increasingly involves high-tech and entertainment products rich in valuable intellectual property.
