About the Course

Start the UX Design Process: Empathize, Define, Ideate is the second course in a certificate program that will equip you with the skills needed to apply to entry-level jobs in user experience (UX) design. In this course, you’ll complete the first phases of the design process for a project that you’ll be able to include in your portfolio. You will learn how to empathize with users and understand their pain points, define user needs using problem statements, and come up with lots of ideas for solutions to those user problems. Current UX designers and researchers at Google will serve as your instructors, and you will complete hands-on activities that simulate real-world UX design scenarios. Learners who complete the seven courses in this certificate program should be equipped to apply for entry-level jobs as UX designers. No previous experience is necessary. By the end of this course, you will be able to: - Empathize with users to understand their needs and pain points. - Create empathy maps, personas, user stories, and user journey maps to understand user needs. - Develop problem statements to define user needs. - Generate ideas for possible solutions to user problems. - Conduct competitive audits. - Start designing a mobile app, a new project to include in your professional UX portfolio....

I truly enjoyed making this course. Gaining a lot of new skills , easy and fun. All the videos are pleasant to watch and listen and extremely informative. Maybe because Im opening the whole new world, for me every lecture and every article were so interesting and not overloaded with unnecessary information. And the tasks that I had to complete along the course were fun to make.

This course was a great introduction into the first 3 stages of the design thinking process. These are obviously very dense topics but the course managed to offer a solid foundation to confidently move to the next stages of the process. The assignments were spot on and allowed me to learn what designers are actually doing when working on design projects in companies like Google.

The "Start the UX Design Process: Empathize, Define, and Ideate" course was very helpful. It clearly explained how to understand users, define their needs, and brainstorm solutions. The practical exercises were great for applying the concepts. I now feel more prepared to start UX projects. Highly recommended for anyone looking to build a strong foundation in UX design.

I liked the instructor very much. The way she explained with the examples. Having animations for examples has really helped me to be persistant and not get bored in the process of learning. The hardest part is the assignments we need that motivation to finish the assignment at any cost. Just allot some time for assignments and we can get it done qucik and efficiently.

Actually, it's an Amazing one, but I wanna talk about the (Assignment and weekly challenges) project. the problem is something, the practical Assignment is not probably clear and simple to understand, and second: make a good and understandable example, of the practical work before the Challenge Assignment. thank you... above all, you guys are Amazing.💪🎉🥳🤓

I feel like I learned a lot in this course! I knew a little about UX before taking the course, but had no idea what to do before actually designing stuff. I'd heard about personas and user journeys, but didn't really get how to make them. The materials in the course walk you through it and were really helpful. Excited I've started building my first portfolio project!

I will recommend this professional program to every learner who is willing to get the best understanding of UX/UI designing. Take this course, take benefits. It is really awesome. For my Instructor: It's been also so wonderful for being your student throughout the course. I also can't wait for me to start a career in UX/UI in future. But this course is best start.

It's a great course, and really makes you do the work that will make you a better designer, and build case studies that you can use in your portfolio. However, it is becoming increasingly harder to grade peer assignments who are not quite as serious about the course - but you need to review to pass - when you, yourself, are also trying to learn from said peers.

I am attending this course while working as a UX at a big company. It has been very helpful and up to date I am very impressed as I already did a Master in Interaction Design and this course really helped me sum up my knowledge and put it into action. I have prompted UX research in one of the projects we are working on and it is going extremely well :)

This course was really deep and clear. Even after completing this course, I gained lot of interest in going in depth in this course. Still feels like there is long way to complete this UX designing because I thought sketching is enough to go further in career seems like there is so so so much to do. I really liked this way of learning and challenges

Probably the most challenging course that I took because I got overwhelmed to conduct with real people that I don't know who. The course provides me a set of tools to overcome every step to gain the research that I need for the course. And most importantly It could be implemented in a realistic situation when the first time I step into a real job.

This course has videos, reading, individual review tasks, and assignments that make me enjoy learning and easily measure my capacity for the materials explained. I love how the instructor delivered the materials in a short but concise way. It's also challenging and interesting to complete each module in the course. It's worth to enroll the course.

It was so great learning all the techniques for empathizing and ideating in the design process. Initially, it appeared to be a boring task to research that much on a single idea but after completing the activities and methods defined in the course, the whole process became fun and the results are so useful in building a true user-centered project.

This course was amazing for me! I learnt alot in this course including how to identify what are the weaknesses and strenghts of our competitors. How to empathize with users, how to think like a user and how to define user correctly using their pain points. I love to be the part of this course. And moving forward to the third one! Happy Learning :)

It does get a little complicated and you really do need to shift your perspective on how to empathise and identify user problems. But that is the brilliance of this course, it gets you to that piont as a UX Designer. Great job! One gripe is coursera thouhg as I had to resubmit a lot of work becuase there is an error with Cache on this website.

Got to learn so many terminology in this course. The course is structured in a way that even though at the starting you dont have any ideas about the terns and concepts, by the end if the course you get a pretty good grip on the concepts and terminology and feel confident on using this concepts in the real world.

Thankyou for this amazing course.

Very complete and detailed.

The information is well-structured and presented; it includes basic/esential contents and extra material; the exercises help to learn all the new conceps you learn.

It's a teorical course, probably you expect to do practical exercises when you take this program, but in my opinion very useful and it gives you a base.

Great course! This course is fundamental to UX research. I have learned a lot about how to conduct UX research. There are many tools and strategies applied for this part. Empathize, define, and ideate are the first three steps of the overall design process before prototyping and testing. It's very important. It’s hard, but it’s worth it!

It was very important to me to deepen my knowledge in research methods and to try them in practice. This course satisfied my needs perfectly. The final assignment with a competitors' audit was really challenging and interesting. The instructors are nice and kind people. I'm very grateful for this study! Thank you, Google and Coursera!

This was a great course, and the peer-review really helped. I got nervous however because my deadline was approaching and there were no submissions to review. I hope that google can make "mock submissions" for students who need to review work so that the lack of people going through the course does not affect the study plan.

The instructor was so friendly and happy, also helpful and with lots of examples. Generally the course was really insightful and I learned a lot, but I think it would be great if you could teach us how to incorporate all the hands on exercises in our portfolio, because mine is still empty and I do not know how to fill it in
