About the Course

The COVID-19 crisis has created an unprecedented need for contact tracing across the country, requiring thousands of people to learn key skills quickly. The job qualifications for contact tracing positions differ throughout the country and the world, with some new positions open to individuals with a high school diploma or equivalent. In this introductory course, students will learn about the science of SARS-CoV-2 , including the infectious period, the clinical presentation of COVID-19, and the evidence for how SARS-CoV-2 is transmitted from person-to-person and why contact tracing can be such an effective public health intervention. Students will learn about how contact tracing is done, including how to build rapport with cases, identify their contacts, and support both cases and their contacts to stop transmission in their communities. The course will also cover several important ethical considerations around contact tracing, isolation, and quarantine. Finally, the course will identify some of the most common barriers to contact tracing efforts -- along with strategies to overcome them....

Easy to follow and understand. The instructor was very clear and knowledgeable of the subject matter. The vignettes were excellent demonstrations of best practices. I am so happy to be a part of this.

Excellent introduction to SARS-CoV-2 and COVID-19; the importance and methodology of contact tracing to help reduce spread of the virus; and the technological tools and communication skills helpful in contact tracing. The lessons are in succinct modules that allow one to learn and then test their retention of the concepts. Well worth my time!

This was one of the most relevant courses I have ever taken. Even if I do not gain a job as a Contact Tracer, I believe that I have become an informed citizen in this fight during this pandemic. Kudos to Tashrik, Brian and Tara; but, I hope I am like Brooke if I become a Contact Tracer. She had such a calm, sweet, empathetic disposition.

I found this course easy to follow and well-presented for the most part. There were a couple of gray areas around the effective communication skills module which took me a while to understand, but the final effect of the course is that I feel more knowledgable about COVID-19, and more understanding of Contact Tracing as a public health tool.

I really enjoyed taking this class. I learned a lot about this virus and it was good to get and understand the facts as we know it right now concerning this pandemic. It is good to separate fact from fiction. Thank you for offering this class for free. I hope this will allow me to a part of the front-line defense in this unprecedented time.

Content-packed -- Great pace -- Taught in a manner that is easily digestible -- Larry, Amy, Annette, and Drew did a fantastic job and appeared very realistic -- I wish there was a way to refute some of the responses for the practice quizzes -- Overall, strongly recommend this class -- I felt what I learned was indeed valuable and worthwhile.

I found the course to be very easy to follow and concepts were defined and explained very clearly. There was enough review to help reinforce the information you were learning without being overly repetitious. I would highly recommend this course to anyone who is interested in learning the skills that are required to work as a Contact Tracer.

I am happy that I enrolled in this Course. In this trying time that we all are experiencing right now it is best that a lot of people will be more educated so that they can use what they learned to help whatever they can do especially in this pandemic that is going on. This course will help you understand things and empathize with everyone.

It's been a very informative course. The course has been prepared and delivered in a very simple, clear, and distinct manner. Look forward to the advanced or updated version when available. However, I am confused about Q24. Why is a laundry service an essential resource for effective isolation or quarantine? Many thanks to Dr. Emily Gurley.

AS a MPH from Hopkins/Bloomberg(class of 2002- I remember Dr. Zenilman's courses fondly. Edyth Scheonrich was my academic advisor) and a 2 decade veteran of contact tracing for the CDC, i found this course enjoyable and hitting all the major points and helping me to get up to speed with COVID, since my DIS experience was in HIV. TB and STD.

The course was well organized and the professor presenting the information was obviously used to transmitting information to people without scientific backgrounds. I enjoyed the course. I do think though that it will take a bit of practice before the things we learned become second nature and we are able to conduct an interview on our own.

This course was presented using multi media which made it easier for me to both pay attention and retain. I appreciated the real life examples, including via video, the written word and narration. The practice quizzes were a great learning tool, especially since they were given without pressure of getting the answers right the first time.

This course was very informative and interesting. Throughout the process, I was kept on my toes with the new information that I learned. I think everyone should try to complete this course for the main purpose of further understanding the virus and how we can all come together and tweak our lifestyle to prevent this virus and ones to come.

Very well designed course to logically and clearly walk you through the science of Covid-19 and the process of Contract Tracing. Whether one is looking to enter this field or to expand their understanding of what it means to operate in a world living with and beyond Covid-19 pandemics this will be a valuable investment of time and energy.

Excellent course. Great examples and test questions to check for understanding. My only complaint is that the time was always rounded down. for example, one video section was 3:59 but was noted as being 3 minutes. When you are trying to figure out if you have time for one more section, I would prefer time to be rounded up instead of down.

Liked that it was divided into sections. I think the most helpful teaching method was the role playing videos. Made the material easy to remember when showing examples for helpful communication strategies, and calculating isolation periods. Liked that it was spoken with helpful graphs etc as well as written so could look back at that too.

The course was very clearly presented. The information is also very clear and up to date, easy to follow, and the practice tests let students know how well they are processing the information. I appreciated having both slides and script available and that I could save notes. I am very grateful for the opportunity to take this training.
