About the Course

The COVID-19 crisis has created an unprecedented need for contact tracing across the country, requiring thousands of people to learn key skills quickly. The job qualifications for contact tracing positions differ throughout the country and the world, with some new positions open to individuals with a high school diploma or equivalent. In this introductory course, students will learn about the science of SARS-CoV-2 , including the infectious period, the clinical presentation of COVID-19, and the evidence for how SARS-CoV-2 is transmitted from person-to-person and why contact tracing can be such an effective public health intervention. Students will learn about how contact tracing is done, including how to build rapport with cases, identify their contacts, and support both cases and their contacts to stop transmission in their communities. The course will also cover several important ethical considerations around contact tracing, isolation, and quarantine. Finally, the course will identify some of the most common barriers to contact tracing efforts -- along with strategies to overcome them....

This is an excellent course covering the SARS-COV-2 virus and COVID-19 illness, typical symptoms, when to seek emergency medial care, requirements for quarantine, isolation and steps involved in contact tracing. It provides good examples of situations a contract tracer may encounter and how to approach them.

While I gave this course five starts for content, I do want to share that listening to the videos was excruciating for me because the speaker talks too slowly for me to stay engaged. I did 90% of the course by reading the transcript and watched the videos when there were examples of tracers speaking to cases.

The course was not difficult for someone with critical thinking skill. The information provided was detailed and precise. I recommend this course to anyone working with people facing COVID or any member of the public. This includes hospital staff, doctors' office staff, social services, etc. Very informative.

I thought this was a great course. I learned how to be a better listener in everyday life as well. I will use the skills learned from this course to listen more effectively, use words to allow the person speaking to know that I understand what they are saying, and I am paying attention. Informative course!

Although it has been a very challenging journey to understand what contact-tracing is, it is very interesting and useful to understand the current situation we are in right now, and how the global communities are trying to cope and resolve the issues that have arise from the paramedic we are experiencing now.

The instructor was very easy to listen to. Material presented in a well organized manner. Graphics were clean and concise. Lots of up-to-date information. Very informative. Easy for me as a medical professional. Would have liked more detailed information about certain situations: ex: how do you obtain translation services, what do you do if someone will not give you any information, how do you find the information to connect cases/contacts to local resources.

Info was very clear and well laid out. Would recommend to any and all healthcare professionals who are actively involved in dealing with COVID-19 pandemic. Even if they aren't doing the contact tracing the communication strategies are of great value in keeping our patients comfortable in this difficult time.

This course was organized and full of vital information as to how to be a contact tracer. Some of the questions were difficult though because the choices you offered were worded quite similarly. Listening, reading, taking notes, and thinking about each lecture will help tremendously when taking this course.

This course should be taken by everyone as a means to educate and limit the exposure of this and all pathogens that can lead to Pandemics such as the COVID 19. With education we can hopefully save more lives. There could also be less resistance of some people to comply with recommendations by the scientists.

The course was very detailed. I enjoyed the different scenarios. I would have liked to see more aggressive contacts (as in real life they would be less likely to agree) but the course was still great. The questions at the end were thought provoking and you didn't just have yes or no questions! Loved it.

The material covered was very extensive. I found a few units within the course mildly confusing due to wording, but the video vignettes helped clear some things up for me. Overall, I enjoyed taking this course, and I believe that it will be helpful for everyone looking to gain employment as contact tracers.

The course was excellent! It provided great information for anyone that wants to learn more about COVID-19, not just to do contact tracing. I work in Human Resources and the course is very helpful in understanding COVID-19 and what questions to ask employees when the call out sick due to COVID-19 symptoms.

The test was amazing because of the short stories, videos, tone of the speaker, short modules, and quick questions after every module. Besides learning more about covid19 the course teaches other life skills that are useful in daily conversations and effective for the workplace such as communication skills.
