About the Course

The COVID-19 crisis has created an unprecedented need for contact tracing across the country, requiring thousands of people to learn key skills quickly. The job qualifications for contact tracing positions differ throughout the country and the world, with some new positions open to individuals with a high school diploma or equivalent. In this introductory course, students will learn about the science of SARS-CoV-2 , including the infectious period, the clinical presentation of COVID-19, and the evidence for how SARS-CoV-2 is transmitted from person-to-person and why contact tracing can be such an effective public health intervention. Students will learn about how contact tracing is done, including how to build rapport with cases, identify their contacts, and support both cases and their contacts to stop transmission in their communities. The course will also cover several important ethical considerations around contact tracing, isolation, and quarantine. Finally, the course will identify some of the most common barriers to contact tracing efforts -- along with strategies to overcome them....

This course is wonderful! I now have a more objective understanding of when to worry and when not to worry about exposure to COVID-19, and how to prevent its spread. The communication tools are also valuable in a variety of situations, not just for contact tracers. I highly recommend this class!

This is very helpful. It would be great if there was a truncated version of the course with the first three modules, just for general education for the population. Whatever we can do to better educate the populace about the actual science of Covid19 will put us in a place to better control it.

Thank you very much. I'm a technologist in the ACLU and have been working on issues around contact tracing, especially technological assistance. I wanted to learn what contact tracers do, so this was valuable to me to understand what really goes on.

The course was everything I hoped it would be.

Terrific intro, with a good mix of general info and specific details. The filmed scenarios are also very helpful. I appreciate the care used to reflect ethnic and gender diversity in the examples and test questions. Tip: If you find the oral narration too slow, you can speed it up in Settings.

This course was very thorough. I enjoyed reviewing the forms of communication. I am a Nurse so the concepts were not new to me but it is a very different form of communication when dealing with people who are not our patients or their families. I am interested in helping out in this pandemic.

I am a nursing professor and program director for nursing continuing education at a Community College. The course is excellent for nurses. I suggest all public health agencies solicit all nursing or allied health programs to help with contact tracing in all states. The material is excellent.

Quality information well presented with one exception. They had a series of good and bad examples and used the male for the bad examples and the female for the good ones. They should have alternated the roles to avoid the suggestion that men can not do this work effectively or as well as women.
